Building control regulation approval
Domestic buildings exempt from building control
Certain buildings are exempt from obtaining Building Regulation approval: these exemptions are illustrated below. However, if any of these buildings receives its electricity from a source located inside a dwelling an application for that electrical work will be required unless it's being self certified by a registered competent person.
These exemptions are:
- Small detached single storey buildings such as garages, sheds and greenhouses which contain no sleeping accommodation and which are:
- not more than 30m sq in floor area and;
- built of substantially non-combustible materials if the building is less than 1m from the boundary (this does not apply if the floor area is not more than 15m sq)
- A greenhouse or conservatory built at ground level with a floor area of not more than 30m sq. Separation to remain between conservatory and house i.e. doors or windows, (glazing at low level or in doors and sidelights must be carried out in safety glass as recommended by the manufacturer or supplier).
- A carport open on at least two sides, the floor area of which does not exceed 30m sq.
- A porch where the floor area does not exceed 30m sq. Separation to remain between porch and house.
Looks like ~I got some work to do!
Moving the ballast is going to take the time, it is double the price to get 25kg bags I will have to get bulk bags dropped and carry it in buckets through the house
nah ill have to get 25kg bags delivered and walk them through the house then mix it next to the hole and pour it in
just got a load of bricks and blocks for free. so I may start this build next week. still undecided on whether to get the concrete pumped or mix it myself. all depends on cost. i think they charge £300 for a pump fee!
Would there be an advantage to build a block or 2 on the slab to keep the timbers off the slab?
what made u opt for 3 blocks?I done 3 concrete blocks then timber . We all do different ways but this was mine.
Enjoy your build.
Well had enough for 3 blocks so just used them up but am sure two is enough.what made u opt for 3 blocks?
fair enough, I have plenty of blocks but my mate says it will be stonger if i fix the timber frame straight to the slab. I was just worried about the timber getting damp/wet and rotting soonerWell had enough for 3 blocks so just used them up but am sure two is enough.
I raised an old freebie shed on blocks/bricks. Shouldn't have bothered. Ended up with a tiny shed for a lot of work. Should have chopped it up, sold it as firewood by the gate and put the money towards a shed 4 times the size:
Those with youngsters or planning to. Build a big, warm shed. Use for all sorts of projects in whatever the weather with them. You will literally make memories in there. Even, for the cost involved, consider putting 150mm of insulation under the slab and underfloor heating pipes for the future.
