very rare viva that and i also had a H reg HB Viva GT in white 155X13 michelins in the wet go evety ware sideways of backwards

still listed on mot web site looks like it's been off the road a long time or scraped but log book not sent in

A Sports Hatch turned up in the car park where I was working around 1990, the owner was the last person you could imagine owning one particularly as it had a 2.6 Blydenstein on twin Dellorto's. All he did was moan about the fuel consumption and very rarely used it!)

There was one parked up in Osterley I used to pass on my way out of College back in 1983 and I noticed the tyres were going flat with the accumulation of dirt building up around it from not moving. I had not passed my car test then and wondered if I could find the owner and buy it, I was mortified to go past and see it burnt out one night, such a shame.

That's me in the yellow, stripping a DC6 so it can be road-hauled back to South Wales. Getting the props off (2500fl-lb hub nut) has been a problem but a Silverline 1/2 inch socket finally did it

Old, 1975, rare, Ossa the least popular of the Spanish trials bikes, but I loved it, so much so i still have one.

Yes, and they needed it - the brakes were useless, particularly when wet

Torque multiplier is the only way to break the taper on a prop hub. Still requires a 3 foot breaker bar (not Silverline) and a fat bloke to crack it.

Oh Rob,

That brings back some horrible memories of a gravity hot-spot in Akrotiri!

It's a long story but centres around a prop change on a C130 and the hub rolling off the safety raiser and just missing one of the ground crew!!!

RWD3M. You mean the big domed cap filled with gears? Yup, seriously heavy. I managed to undo the first one and start to slip it away before I realised just how heavy it was. Caught it in my lap, pinning my legs to the steps, before someone came to my aid. Gallon of old oil down the trousers and into one boot. Lovely.

On a C130 you're meant to use a sling and a crane but of course, we all know better don't we?

Quite hard to lift these things off. There are manuals showing some of the handling equipment but nobody has any of the correct kit for sale. The engines are about 1.5 tons as they come off and the props maybe another half ton. Good to have a competent Tele-Handler driver on the team. Next week we're chopping up VC10s, Tristars and a Super Guppy.

Such a shame they can't be saved but both have sat for 20+ years without protection. Corrosion to the Guppy main spar was so severe that we couldn't really work underneath the wings so they came off with a push from a telehandler. Lots of pieces salvaged with many going to people turning them into arty-farty ornaments. 2 more 747s to come at Bruntingthorpe soon, along with maybe a few more large jets.
