My Mum and Dad have known the owner and have been associated with the ship since the early to mid-1970s. Sadly Leslie passed away in 2022. My Dad, now 87 last went sailing on her in 2017. Pat, Leslie's wife came to my Mum's funeral in January.I used to know someone that crewed the Irene, would have been later than 1980 I think, probably nearer mid 80’s

Steering by elastic! Took a bit of getting used to, I learnt to drive in one in 1966. It was my father’s, he got about 30 to the gallon, went everywhere in top gear, I got about 15! This was a Martin Walter Utilabrake version, 10 seats from what I recall, we used to fill it up & go to Castle Coombe race circuit, you used to pay per car! They lost out on that one, we had it cram full. All went well sitting on the roof until suddenly there was a BONG & the convex roof went concave with the weight. We got inside & pushed it back out, dad never noticed the creases at the corners. They look so small against a modern car.For their age the CAs dont drive bad at all, I really enjoyed bumbling around in the one I drove

It's a just postwar Austin Sixteen. They had a 2.2 Litre 4 cylinder motor. The UK factory only sold it as a saloon AFAIK. So this one is either an Australian Ute, or more likely, a very clever metalwork jobAustin, sorry don't know the model (with a Honda thanks to @Erie Fred)
