It's changed to a one-a-month payment rather than per-video. If you go to the Patreon page they've got a video up explaining why/how/what.

Also a little Adsense revenue from YouTube but for most youtubers, the vast majority of money comes from sponsors.

Why should the viewing public pay all of their costs? Do all the patreons get a turn to drive it when it's finished?

I'm pretty sure Sky F1 customers don't get to drive the F1 cars either and it's absolute no different from paying to watch a film

Sky F1 customers are paying sky, not F1. I don't pay to watch F1, or films for that matter.

Patreons pay Patreon who pay Bad Obsession so I don't think it's that different to SKY buying the rights to F1 and charging people to watch it. The net result is the same, there is a producer,a middle man and an end user.

There are loads of different ways of looking at it, each to their own.

They put their videos on youtube too - all that the people get who pay via patreon is to see the videos 24 hours earlier. That and the knowledge that you're helping people produce something that you enjoy watching.
I don't begrudge them the dosh, and am happy to pay a little toward it. They've said that they can now produce more videos more often, thanks to the donations, which presumably mean that they can turn down some work and concentrate on the project.
