When you're filling the smaller bottles off the large calor bottles how do you make sure you don't overfill or over pressurise the smaller cylinder or are the smaller cylinders able to take full pressure? The ones I'm thinking of are the CGA600 bottles.

there filled to about 80 percent and by weight so u don't overfill the bottles

a few of mine ive fit a shrader valve in the screw in safety solder plug and fill from there saves taking the torch of all the time
I'd rather keep the cylinders as standard. they are pressure vessels, best not to play with them if you dont know what you're doing and I'll err on the side of caution. if you are using shraeder valves, I hope they have the correct cores some of them have a working pressure that is lower than the pressure of propane at 50C, in which case you potentially have an accident waiting to happen.

I have access to plenty of Propane bottles, some of them a bit too big to be putting upside down :-)

only if the bottle is one that they use in campervans designed to be filled by joe public not the ordinary shell or calor bottles

You can get the refillable bottles for camper conversions where the fill up point is mounted to the body of the vehicle

That's because they aren't produced on mass scale + they need to be safety approved I'm sure!

I bought a 80L(?) Lpg car tank from the scrappy for a tenner.
Wouldn't be that difficult to mount it in a trailer with the correct filler connector, then just demount?

Only if you want to die. Cars and fork truck tanks take the feed from the bottom of the tank, feeds liquid as opposed to ordinary bottles that takes gas from the top. Saw a picture of a van conversion that had burned out as the cooker turned into a flame thrower when he lit it.

I did not know that.
Not relevant when i'm turning them into BBQs.
I thought the idea of decanting into smaller bottles was to use the liquid?

it comes out of the big bottle that is upside down as a liquid then when in smaller bottle the right way up comes out as gas that's why u only fill to 80 percent

I came across this old thread (sorry for bringing it back to life). I have the same issue and am trying to source the same adapter or even one that will allow me to fill my Primus 2000 from camping gas containers. How did you find it/ what did you search for please? Did you work out what the thread is on the Primus 2000?
