A few of those mounted along a stairway with a handrail clamped in the jaws could be an interesting conversation piece.

The vice I got , got cleaned then a work bench got given to us. Vice is now mounted, a bit far back from the front edge of the bench but I just fitted it to the holes that were already there. I did try to mount it nearer the edge but the metal below the bench top is hard and my ferrex drill kept cutting out even though I was going very canny

Dome nuts and a decent "Tommy Bar made and fitted.
The blackeneing was touched up and a hard wax finish applied.

Any idea how old or who made - I believe the republished Timmins of Birmingham catalogue of about 1800 shows this type?

No Idea. There were no mark of manufacture on the vice.

Not sure if these are 'bench vices' - but anyone counted how many different brands of English 6-7" wide jaw woodworkers vices there are? Seem to be huge number even apart from the big makers such as Record, Woden. They tend to have the 1940-60 'look' - I guess for the new post-war market, and something for the foundries to do, now they weren't making armaments etc.

'erindoors got me this as a belated Valentine present. portable work bench with a Record 22 attached. It's bloody heavy. Since cleaned it up and put my old No 74 on. You can see the stick it has taken over the years. Still serviceable .

Not a bench vice but decided to strip clean and paint my trusted Nippy vice this week, never even realised you can adjust the ways underneath until i stripped it. Nice smooth action now too.

Yeah it’s quite a cool usfull thing I have missed other things by waiting to long myself but still have to strip the paint but there ar some drill hear Marks and there but will sort that out with the mig

Nothing, the top cover and carb were off. I was waiting for a carb rebuild kit. Blue roll was in the intake to stop dust and carp getting in

Made some soft jaws, they're big but if I want I can always cut them smaller of course.

Parkinson bench vice on eBay, looks like a bargain.

Just bought a Parkinson’s model f 8a off eBay for a quid. Think it needs new springs though, any ideas welcome.
Will post some pics shortly.
