Thanks to MattF for a few tips.

For information a valve spring from a Hino cement truck fits a no6 record!

Does this apply to most vices with 6 inch jaws. I’m in need of a springs for my paramo no6 and my Parkinson model f 8a.

Just bought a Parkinson’s model f 8a off eBay for a quid. Think it needs new springs though, any ideas welcome.
Will post some pics shortly.

The springs are hard to find.
But the original can be removed cleaned up, refitted and tightened.

That's a big one - I have a similar Parky - how wide are the jaws on yours (mine may be replacements)?

I need to fettle mine and, in particular, make some sort of vice stand as it over-powers the bench. Works OK, despite being very old (cast in name etc suggest first five or so years of mfgr) I will then post a pic, but don't hold your breath. Original colour seems to be usually red, but I think I'll go for a muted green.

Believe it or not, 6 inch. The same as the paramo next to it. Just more meat on it.

They definitely look like they go all way through. Are they taper pins perchance?

Cleaned that Parkinson 8A up. Absolutely no alteration to it bar a strip down, cleaning and the addition of four brass washers on the insert bolts with this one. Remembering my last side by side photo of it with the No.7:

I can honestly say that the next side by side made me feel guilty enough to decide that the No.7 wants a full fettling now too, seeing as that one is my main work horse.

Just bought an 8a. What did you clean it up with. Just after some hints and tips.

New spring why? Judging from the QR lever, the spring is there & not snapped.

Regarding the disappearance of the photo's, they're just one of the casualties of my divorce. Paraffin or kerosene for cleaning.

Cheers MattF, much appreciated. Don’t think the spring is snapped, might just need cleaning. Will get the paraffin out. Any history on the Parkinson’s 8a. You seem to be a vice encyclopaedia. I’m always intrigued by the history.

Don’t suppose you have the Parkinson’s model 8a diagram do you. Just bought one but needs stripping and cleaning. Just noticed the trigger spring snapped too. Any ideas of a replacement. Thanks.
