iIt’s not it’s automated. I’ve seen this process a thousand times before. The surface finish ripples are tighter than a manual weld will be. If that’s manual the guys arm is moving like a fiddlers elbow.
I bet there is only 1 stop point on it too.
I’m aware rotators can achieve that as well but more likely it’s only got one stop point as it was automated. We will have to agree to disagree but I’ve lots of samples at work near on identical to it performed by orbital heads that I can put up next week. I’d be interested to see if you could achieve the same finish by hand.
if its been done on the manipulator in the fab shop there is only one stop .on the larger butts we would have wire near hand and mometarily slope down grab another bit wire and hit the button again to continue no stopping you can control how heavy the cap by thee position your welding at eg on the climb heavier or higher up lighter
