I’m with Zepplin on this one that’s been done by hand on a rotator.

Guys bloody neat but it’s not robotic, there are small variances in the width of the cap and the cap height.

You only have to go on Instagram and look at @fieldres or @total_quality_gtaw to see how neat some welders are.

College got one of those things the year after I finished my apprenticeship. They had it at a yard open day and collared me walking past to have a go to demo how great it was to prospective students and their parents. Absolute crap, nowt like welding

Here's one I did much earlier, it's the blade cover on my bandsaw that was missing a piece, my first weld with the new GYS 140 easymig.
0.8mm thick steel 0.8rmm wire and the bottle of argon mix gas that came with the welder.

I understand your point, Dan. Having a few minutes on virtual takes getting use to. Of course while it is not nowt like the real McCoy, it does instill the need for correct tilt angles, stick out and, speed of travel. Then out into the welding workshop to put virtual into reality.

Plus the fact, it is good fun, too!!

I got near enough perfect scores for travel speed and angle, but I couldn’t get on with the depth perspective so my arc length was all over the shop

Aye, it is hard trying to keep everything thing green, with arc length colour being within the shroud itself.

When I tried the kit you see in image for the first time, I was bloody awefull, so were a few others on the course. It is only when you have a few hours in, the better you are and, you begin to realise the virtue of virtual.

At least you have had a go with virtual, did you use same brand posted?
