Oh is it. yer learnt summat new every day. Just yorkshire men in our place tho.
Oerlikon Inox they are. For stainless steel / mild steel. Bloody expensive.

Cast welding rods are expensive, i bought a small box from BOC, £45, and i do mean a small box. Still just pass it onto the customer, if they want a bit of cast welded its going to cost them.

yep an old school welder taught me that trick, far better than so called cast rods.

Wonder if you can mig braze cast iron? I assume you can ive braze the odd bit of cast together not under great stress loading before with ok results (im talking about ornimental bits of cast that someone has dropped and broke), got me thinking now

Now thats something ive learned since joining the forum. I can see me shelling out for a mig braze roll now just to play with. Still its no more expensive than a box of cast rods

I also like the tig, it makes a nice job with a stainless filler,

Snowcat your saying you can TIG cast using stainless steel filler rods, never tried that. Thats 2 things i learned since joining

Back on topic (Well the original one lol). Heres my shed.

The first 2 show the shed in the process of a cleanup last year. The shed is 7 meters deep and 10 meters wide (3 bay). The first 2 bays are for storage and the 2 cars, while the third is my workshop area.

The last image is of the new, but as yet incomplete, project for the welders. I have yet to add some bracing to the back & sides as the top does wobble a bit more than I'd like, but I did expect it.

I might add a strip of 35 * 3mm metal in an X across the back, and one down the side to see what that does as far as stifening the unit up.

Is that a harrison 140 I see tucked away in the top left corner there? if so how does it compare up against the myford accuracy and useability wise?
Im in the market for a new lathe to replace my worn out harrison l5 and Ive been wondering about a 140...

I’m sorry about the delay in reply, I’ve had a busy week,
Well spotted ! The lathe is a Harrison 440 I think? It’s a tool room lathe which was produced in 1984, I bought it from RAF Lemmington, not had much hammer really, so its still quite accurate, the myford is about 25 years old, there is a little wear but still turns out a good job, both lathes are about as accurate as each other. The myford is much quieter so I can use it in the evening time (if I’m ever home)

Shed makeover!

This has been my project for the last week. It's a shed a little smaller than a double garage that we inherited full of rubbish, and was low down on the list of priorities to sort. It's a storage/general work place.

I wandered in to do something last weekend and there was just no space at all to work. Took a whole week on and off to tidy it up and paint the floor.

There's a bit of space for something now. I'm considering getting hold of a pillar drill so all the swarf ends up in the shed rather than the workbench in the garage. Will be scanning ebay for nearby woodworking benches too.

Actually the storage issue is a biggie. Really ruins a workshop when you start storing stuff in there.

What does everyone else do for storage? Anyone built a shed and managed to keep rarely used stuff in there rather than in the workshop?

We've got a spare shed piled high with crap. Tempted to adopt it, weigh everything in or eBay, and move all my shelving in there.
