I have two stories in the workshop itself, so upstairs is storage. To the left of the access hatch is materials, tube, bits of bar etc, and to the right is bike stuff and bits n bobs. Under the bench is a couple of sets of drawers where more exotic (and smaller) materials live categorized to their type (plate, tube etc) and material... I fixed a small winch (250-500kgs) on the upstairs joist on a substantial oak beam, so can hoik stuff up there without too much pain, or I'd never bother half the time and it would end up cluttered. Access is via a ladder that retracts as stairs would waste too much floorspace, and I just hook the winch onto it and pull it back in..

The household stuff goes in another shed... Just finishing off a extension to the garage so that the steam cleaner and some other machine tools can live in there.

If its stuff thats bulky and Im not likely to need it in the short term, and it has no real monetary value, I take to the field where we have a old tin roofed storage garage. I dont put anything stealable in there as its had the lock cut off by the gypos in the past, only for them not to take anything anyway. At the moment it has a wrecked renault espace jammed over the doorway acting as a lock, nobodys managed to cut that off with a pair of bolt crops yet, but it does mean I need to use the rangie to drag the lock mechanism out the way before I can get stuff...

Other than that, at the moment our vw camper has the mower and a playpen inside it, so I wouldnt have to sully my workshop with it. I must build another little shed for stuff like that, since we co-opted the last garden shed into being the pump building for the pool, and its full of pool stuff now...

woz the forklift is living out side at the moment as there are 3 builders skips bein built by the shutter and the up stairs is just as bad, got 2 kids comin in next week to tidy it up and sort out all the crap,wiegh in all the scrap

No matter how big it is you can fill it with junk. Im contemplating building an extension of about 35ftx20ft, which in theory will double the size of my workshop. which means i can have twice as much junk

Spot the 4 Welders in this pic.

Two new welders and about 4 square foot of space to work in. i cant even get to my bench and have to suffer the ignomy of using the Workmate to clamp work to.
PS: you can see the Portamig and the Oxford oil cooled, but can you also spot the Sip and the clarke ?
Im looking for a little wooden shed to store the gardening stuff in, and lots of shelving and storage from roof hangers is called for methinks.
My new car dont have a towing bracket, so i cant even get the rubbish down the tip on the trailer. i have a mate with a van, but hes not allowed to take anything to the local tip, without paying through the nose, as business waste, even though its not. And they wonder why fly tipping is on the increase

The Welding Bay is right next to the garage door. ie: where i am standing. The cans have no flamables in them. (the quality street tins, have no sweeties in either) Talking of fires i think ill get one of those olde fashionde parrafin heaters. I may weld together a shelf for it, to go on top of the Portamig.

You must have time on your hands?. (or eagle eyes) I too often download unclear photos from this forum and run them through Photoshop, curves, gamma, histogram, etc, to make them clearer, so i can see things that the poster is talking of, but cant be seen in the offending photo.

Here's one i quick and nastied in Irfan view.

It must be eagle eye as I never seen to have enough time on my hands. Wow that makes some difference to the photograph. Grinders are better at starting fires than welders as the spark can travel quite a bit

Hi Guys,

my workshop is a standard garage, about 18 x 7 feet.



Down the left hand side there's the bandsaw, bench grinder with compressor behind.

Then there's suppposed to be four feet of 'fab'/painting bench but it's currently filled with the air hose dispenser that I made and then the hovercraft engine. Shelving above for general paints, brushes, oils, etc.

Beyond that is the six foot welding bench with a fire extinguisher, a chop saw and the welder at the far end, shelving above for hand tools, latex gloves, etc.

Heavy metals go under these benches with smaller off-cuts of angle, rod, tube, pipe, etc.

Dexion shelves across the back mostly filled with junk/little used tools, etc.

On the right there's a lock-up cabinet with a fire blanket on the door, then the lathe, pillar drill, bench vice and finally swing press.

I'm thinking of selling the press as I don't use it much now I'm not making market stalls. Then I could move the bench closer to the door and get the lathe on the floor freeing up the worktop.

Above this bench there's some yellow plastic boxes with nuts, bolts, washers, etc. Above that there's a couple of brackets with lengths of 1" and 20mm box.

The big red number one on the press is a practice session with the plasma cutter...my grandson has a pedal powered go-kart and he wanted a number on it. It's just waiting for his next visit for him to attach it.

As well as the six lights I've taken out a large portion of the far end roof to the right of the welding bench and installed some clear corrugated plastic to let a bit of extra light in.

Thankyou for the compliment simon.. there are a few clubs here around the north west, im a member of a little club in "sale", will be running it there !
my next project if i live long enough will be a 5 inch gauge britainia..
But really i want to finish this bloody thing off !

Brought back memories reading past threads and viewing pics of your model steam loco! I was involved in the manufacture 10, off Britannia's. I did top side work on boiler, fire box ect, was a fantastic learning curve, especially when doing hydraulic testing of completed fabrication, spent many hours chasing pinhole leaks! Anyway sir, I tip my bucket at your eng skills, I hope you manage to complete your current project and, make a start on Brittania.

Pps, instead of fitting real solid rivets, I made up a tool to "part punch matl" so as to look like real solid rivets, good time saver, especially when/if brass rivets will be painted over?
