This is very interesting, i do enjoy having a nosy LOL.. well i will take a few pics of my lil workshop, it only 8 x 16 feet and i just can get in the door

Is it wooden? Cos it sounds just like mine - 8x16 wooden, and currently I can barely get in the door

HI SC_BK,
Its a brick one with a flat roof, inside ive lined it with Polystyrene and chip board in an attempt to insulate it, before everything went rusty with just the brick work and concrete floor..
A part from one or two things ( ), ive only have an arc welder at the moment, will be getting a mig in august, then i an be come a fully fledge member of this forum.

Yeah my father inlaw ran out of time building his "bridget" the firm he got the drawings from went bankrupt so he ended up having to do all his own castings ect.

The boiler is 1/8" copper. it was a 6 inch tube which had been split on one end to form to fire box and foundation area. All rivets are 1/8", been silver soldered using easy flow 2 flux.. The bushes for the steam fittings on the back head has been threaded 3/8" and 1/2" M.E. 32TPI.
The back head itself is inclined at 6.5 degrees, i milled the faces of the headed bushes so the valves will be at 90 to it, whilst some are at 90 to the CL of the boiler its self.
Cab is 1/16" sheet steel, the brass beading is 3/32" half round and used normal soft solder to hold it with.

ahh a proper boiler, the hunslets geting a steel droped on it just got to sweet talk the hitler of an inspector at our local club to certify it to let me run, mind the rate i am working at global warming will have long wiped out that part of essex. How many castings did you buy?

Thankyou for the compliment simon.. there are a few clubs here around the north west, im a member of a little club in "sale", will be running it there !
my next project if i live long enough will be a 5 inch gauge britainia..
But really i want to finish this bloody thing off !

Good luck with the steel boiler - they are much stronger for sure - im not certain but i think in a steel boiler the flue tubes are made out of copper.. i may be wrong i usually am !!

On the casting front i bought the raw cast wheels then turned them, the front ones are off a different type of engine but dont tell any one, it has one spoke too many

The cast iron cylinders too plus the end covers.. the rest has been produced from stock materials.

The actual engine is call a L.N.E.R "B2" which was the royal train between 1945 to 1959 !

Hunslets are great engines, there is a chap i know who i do a few bits for, his hunslet is worn out but goes on for ever and ever just like the real thing !

I think you can go to copper but im putting CDS tubes in there flared not welded so you can replace when rotten,

Dont worry about your spokes, i consider myself to be a loco builder rather than a model engineer, so i cheat and dont worry too much about the details,

Im half thinking of putting the hunslet on hold for a bit a knocking up a romulas, Id say a year would have one of those knocked out.

I’m afraid I’m a glutton for detail, I have over 400 rivets in so far and count them of an old photograph
