as the RSJ wears just tighten the bolts on the sliderhow after u have welded it as well

ok I see where you are coming from now! middle plate would need to be thinner to tighten the bolts to take wear out from top face!how after u have welded it as well

NO! H beam would be better I beam has the tapered edges

why all that
all he needs is better cross top support from one side to the other
the hydraulic ram lifted with cross support to the ram head and he will be fine
his failed because his ram is too low something ive said from the start as its more prone to lift up and out

Because I have built dozens of them and that's the only way that works properly. The carriage cannot cock on misshapen logs or things bend, not many logs are perfectly square cut nor a knot free straight split.

I have one of these. Theres the odd one it doesnt like, usually twists it out slowly, but not had any it wouldnt split eventually.
quite like bobs design espescially if using it lots
They are only 25mins from me. My lad is building a new splitter for himself and he ordered one of their kits on ebay and it was way cheaper than buying off their website.
They are super cheap but prices soon start racking up.
On my tractor and my hydraulic power pack the auto kick out works well, both my lads tractors must have higher flow because the kick out feature doesn't well it does but it does it straight away.

Well if I am going to the bother of re building this splitter I better invest in a better double action ram that time then. Maybe even a better pump to make it quicker.

Thread resurrection I know , but I'm looking to build a splitter powered off compact tractor hydraulics ,
Ive got 118 Bar (1715PSI ). Pressure and 23 litres /minute flow ....
So need to work out what ram bore size I need to get a good force , I'd like at least ten tonnnes I guess so at a guess. 100 bore at least ?
I might get on the chat to flowfit (I'll get valve etc from them ) secondhand ram would be good as new would be too speedy at that size .... cheers guys

Mikey I would check to see what the flow rate of that compact tractor is at a sensible working rpm , that may be the max flow rate of the machine running the engine flat out.
