I spent some money well it was before Christmas!
Bought a piece of PB to make a new cross slide nut for the lathe
31.98mm major diameter (0.05mm up on current)


dialed it in on the mill





drilled and tapped TR12x2.5 LH





back to the lathe for oiler hole



back to the mill for adjuster hole and slitting.

Got a bracket made up to hold the mister/tank etc and routed the pipe through the energy chain, through the column and out the back to the valve.
Still need to put a bit of thick neoprene between the tank and the bracket but need to find some first
Also had to swap out the knockoff Loc-Line and put some of the real stuff in as even at the short length of the knockoff stuff it couldn't hold its shape, the real Loc-Line is double the length and no problem.

Made a fuel pickup sump for my Humber fuel tank. The original is tiny, not up to feeding 5200cc.

Well as an aside to the new crossslide nut I made I also bought a TR10x2.5 tap for making top slide nuts.
So I made a new nut, this time out of brass as the tap looked larger than the top slide screw.


I was a bit skeptical about what thread it was as it didn't correspond to any I could find, OD of 9.2mm and a pitch of 2.5mm.
Low and behold the nut thread is larger than the screw, so what to do - put my £20 tap in a drawer and forget about it or make a screw to match.

Well after a bit of faffing about with the vice handle from the Aldi bandsaw vice (altered long ago) which machined terribly and is currently languishing in the bin! I found another piece of steel from an old shaft which turned a lot nicer.



Just have the drive flat to mill tomorrow afternoon and a bronze thrust washer to make.



Although if it's going to be rainy for the rest of the week I may make another set as the lathe is all set up for it.

Made wifey a set of 8mm "racing needles".
These are carbon fibre knitting needles. She use this size to knit dog blankets for Battersea (she's done hundreds) but the commercial aluminium ones tend to shed their colour and then she ends up with black fingers.
She has 4mm carbon fibre needles but 8 mm don't seem to be available. So I bought a length of 8 X 6 carbon fibre tube and machined the ends from stainless steel.

They are incredibly light, hence the "racing needles" as wifey calls them.
They are also very smooth and slippy, not all knitters like this or can cope with it.
She loves them.

Made a bit of an alteration to the mister, removed some of the Loc-Line and threaded a bit of stainless 1/4 BSP external one end and 1/8 BSP internal the other.

It is much more rigid now.

Quick test and it seems good
I switched off the air blast on the second half of each pass to see the difference. It doesn't show much on the vid but it did make a big difference as the chips started sitting on the plate instead of getting blasted away.

No it is 2.5 not 2.54. It's for the metric version though probably based on 3/8 diameter blanks.
