You should have no problem felling a tree diameter nearly double the length of your guide bar , there are methods you know .
have stripped a bit of bark to go in your survival kit , tis a silver birch isn't it .

Cherry bark works great too. I always save it.

Got a lot on at the moment, so knocked this out today.
Bit off cable tray, air manifoldsand some pipe clips still to go on...
Then 2 similar sections to make next week, to make a large valve manifold.

This type of lantern need a long match to ignite the fuel in the mantle.

Not an issue as they are easy to find.

But I was board.

A lot of scrap and we have a long match.
Old Brass case, bit of gear linkage, old cupboard handle and some slow match.

The tip is dipped into Meths.

I can’t, don’t have gas, so no brazing for me.
Actually, it could have been soldered, with some bakers and a map torch. Keep practicing

Lighting fires. Works as well or better than silver birch bark even when damp. It has volotile oils in tge bark that burn great.

This stump is a bit too low but I was too lazy to move the big one. Axe is too small for effiecient splitting but much of it is done.

Discovered old logs that have started to dry are hard work to split, better when fresh!

For what purpose? I have a huge cherry log seasoning nicely and some small bits.

If you haven't already done it paint the cut ends and any cut off branch stubs with loads of melted candle wax on and two inches or more up from the cut to slow the evaporation down to stop the wood splitting in hears aches .
I was given two lovely out door seasoned 8x8 square cut logs they looked good but now they have spent a year under cover slowly drying out they have split to buggery

Slathered the freelander underneath and inside the sills etc with pressure sprayed thinned waxoyl before refitting the rear arch mud traps (ive put a few holes in them so I can insert the hosepipe )
