I struggle to get into one piece overalls so my normal workshop attire is polycotton overtrousers with a shop coat on the top half, I buy mine from a local agri supplies store. If I'm working under a car I use a shorter jacket as the long coat restricts movement!

That really depends on what you do with an axe. Most people nowadays only split wood with them and for that you don't need them to be that sharp.
But for timbering and woodworking you want as sharp an axe as you can get without getting an edge that is too fragile, example, this guy would have difficulties getting his work done without a very sharp axe, look at how he cuts the log square in the start.
Once I get to work on my new shed/garage I'll have to prepare three beams like this for the roof, though I will probably use a chainsaw.

You need a sharp axe for green woodworking as well, making spoon carving blanks is an example.

Some may remember I acquired this bunch of gates and metal work.
Well I have finally done something with them.
Repainted them, fitted decent furniture to them.
Hung them on a friends new gate post.
That image is first fit and getting them level.
The left hand side fence and post is 4" higher than the right.
After much adjustment and readjustment the gates hang in a manner what keeps the tops rail in line with the top of the fence.
But doesn't look to bad at the bottom, the road slopes down from the left.

This has bean in build since January. Delayed due to work, parts and time.
But also due to the brick wall the gates were going to be attached do needing to be rebuilt, due to frost damage.
Hung, the wall plate was shimmed so it hung true.
Not bad, considering neither walls were true. The drain pipe hides how bad the brick wall is out of true.
Yes, different type of hinges, why? My friend wanted them that way.

First turning project on the new lathe after some gib adjustments and a quick lube up. I made a brass cap for the drawbar I also just made for the mill I also just aquired! Cap is so you can tap the drawbar to loosen the taper.
Also made a brass washer with a taper to match the top of the spindle so it centres the drawbar as if it's not bang on it won't go down all the way.
Drawbar is m12 stainless studding, and the "nut" is 4 m12 ss nuts tigged together and rounded once tightened onto the studding, and then an m14 nut tigged to the stack so I've something a bit bigger to tighten the drawbar with!

Got another bit done today to the womancave.
The grating I’ve fitted on either side of the front came from a Victorian lunatic asylum, up near Blairgowrie, and I got it the same chap I bought my blacksmith’s leg vice from.
I’ll paint the grating green to match the porch, and just need to make the doors, and fit some acrylic windows.

It’s still in the car. When the light pollution got too bad here (about 5 years ago), a friend ended up with my 2x telescopes.
He decided to empty his garage, so I got them back. The 10” Dobsonian is now happilt esconsed with a lovely man in Dunfermline, and when I fix the 2nd loop on the stand in the picture (apparently fell over and broke), I can get this one back in use.

How did you machine the flats of the nut accuratly?
(Or am I being dim and you used hex bar).
