Finally got off my sorry carcass and welded up this bowl tool rest; I've had the bright mild steel hanging around for, like, months... had hoped to make the curved rest from 16mm diameter bar but then realised I couldn't bend it so resorted to 30mm by 6mm flat bar, which I could just bend by hand using a large bench vice and adjustable spanner. I'm hoping it'll work on inside and outside...

It was being able to make things like this at home that made me start thinking about getting a MIG welder several months ago - and, several hundred pounds the lighter, here we are!

Today my jumper went all religious on me

I was welding the underside of the shelter deck and in places it was fairly corroded and thus spattery to weld, new Alu is great to weld in any position but the old stuff is...

This was the section I had cut out for the winch, also had to reposition the port and mid rollers for the new winch.

Oh I also made this before I headed home, it is for snaking the 10m interconnect cable of the EWM Phoenix 355 whilst it is in the workshop
Hopefully I will be getting it this week sometime. Could have done with it for shelter job I have just done as I had to get the crane to lift my Phoenix 330 up onto the shelter today as the boat is now up the slipway.

Nice job, to improve it a bit reduce the depth of the rest at the ends, will allow closer positioning tthe work ,

I'm considering this very much a prototype and I left the rest long so I can shorten it. Have some more steel on the way so i can make some more for different size bowls. And just remembered we have some Kasenit at work...

Well, quite right. There's huge parts of it which aren't hole.

I made loads of horrible plastic swarf.


Oh, and a pulley.

The crowns were free hand with a rasp, it's a horrible material and I couldn't get a form tool to leave anything like a finish.

Knocked this up; a 12V distribution panel for radio gear, out of an old PC PSU case and a bit o' ply or two.

Humph. Only thing is, the bleedin' combined ammeter / voltmeter just sulks and refuses to do anything.
I've a feeling it's knackered, so will replace it with a pair of proper gauges.

I didn't, but I've got a smaller one to to to get the mid range speeds so I'll give it a try.

Today... I made a frame and door frame out of 45mm x 4 mm angle section, to span two concrete vertical posts. The desired effect is to have a door onto the road opposite to our entrance way. It will be then covered in corrugated iron, painted green and maybe camouflaged to make a secret gate. I've concrete it in this eve, but wasn't intelligent enough to take any photos. I'll do that tomorrow. Hopefully the concrete will have set by tommorow.

Give it 18 months and you should have enough holes to run some wool through and make a tidy Fair Isle wooly pully. A slit up the front and a couple of buttons would give you a decent cardigan and a full 2 years of welding abuse should yield a rather fetching tank top.

heres mine old skylight bottom end finally gone due to owners bodges and refusing to pay for a new steel wired glass

rotted rafters and base of skylight fully rotten in the middle

replaced with newish gear at bottom rafters repaired new slates put on and built up to new window height at bottom of skylight, old glass replaced back into newly built window

owner had a choice of getting glass cut or not he didnt so it went back in

everything is silliconed up so no water should get through any of the glass or leak down the sides of glass
