my bike right now is 6kw, on a hub motor that's good for 20kw
from 40+mph you can get 1.2kw regen, that drops down as you slow down
but regen cuts out about 4mph (by then it's only doing ~200watts)
regen is good for normal riding... but when you need to stop for a red light you didn't expect to change, or because someone else does something - cars stopping, changing lanes etc. regen is pretty useless to slow you / stop you

Need to give my "older bike" collection more of a dry winter so extending my outside shed but with no further intrusive posts was on the agenda...RSJ bought which will bolt to the existing 7x2 timber that carries the fascia board..i have cut one of the webs off so it bolts flat to the timber.. Welded 75mm box off that which will carry all my timber and boards for the flat roof....This post is a massive shout out to Mag drills in general which are one of my favorite tools to have around
and after drilling the RSJ i also managed to do another small job which has been on my hit list and that's to shorten my press and mount it on the metal bench..another job for the mag drill which for anyone who has not used one drills a perfect hole to size and leaves it perfectly clean...anyway pics from the last few days of work at home

I was in a grump.
Today was not a good day, the weights, the Adze and a call out to press a button. 4 1/2 wasted.
Such is life.
I was pondering what to crack on with.
I looked in the scrap wood bin.
This bunch of off cuts said "Make us into something."
I think it is a Christmas tree.
The base is bit of Beech handle, the star pine, the dowel B&Q and the round things Sycamore.
I had to weld up a quick jig to hold everything is a position what look correct.
The jig was then cut up to make wedges for a friends tool handles.
The job I was going to do, but......
Ok I was distracted.

What weights and adze?
Surely you can whack a callout fee on that? Someone I sincerely disliked set off an alarm once long ago and had to shell out $3000 for two appliances and the wormwald man. That felt very pleasing, if a little crushing for him!

I have always wonder why on performance and modified cars, everyone seems to try and get the biggest brakes that will fit under the wheels (even putting bigger wheels to allow the fitment of bigger brakes) ending up with discs that are bigger than some wheels used to be, with a massive increase in un-sprung weight etc.
Yet on bikes where the rim acts as a massive disc with a huge lever arm, people want to go for tiny disc brakes.
I don't ride a bike so have no first hand experience, but I know discs can have advantages and I'm guilty of installing bigger brakes than standard in the past (they were definitely needed) but it seems to me that disc brakes on a push bike are a solution looking for a problem.

Rim brakes are the drum brakes of the cycle world. Buckle your wheel on a descent theh dont work. Disks continue
Get your wheels wet and muddy and they struggle.
Disks are a big improvement over rims off road. On road not such a deal butbid rather have them.
though for trials i preferred hydraulic rim brakes.

But you are adding mass with the disc and caliper? (not much I know)
What I'm saying is the wheel rim is already there and so you already have a free massive disc / braking surface.
Were rim brakes so flawed that they had to install a complete additionally system? Or is it more fashion?

Looking at modern rim brakes the material is miles away from the hard rubber blocks of the past and with dual wall alloy rims they are much more rigid then the old lightweight pressed steel rims.

Cheers, that makes sense
But how bad a buckle would you need to knock the brake blocks back or are you saying it's bent so the brake blocks have nothing to run on? Is that even a wheel by that stage?
You might have bigger problems but I can see how a completely independent braking system (well almost) would be useful.
It's a bad day you don't learn something and it still just after 09-00
