A load of pie cuts. Not nearly as delicious as it sounds.

I wonder if it's possible to make something like that pie cut bend but using round 160mm ducting.... I am building dust collection in my shop and that could help save money if I could make my own bends... Would be enough if I could tack them and duct tape the rest...

No reason you couldn't do it that way. The tricky bit there is goin to be cutting something that size to the angles. I use a 6x4 bandsaw to do them. If your going to be using duct tape to seal them together then the fit up doesn't matter as much as when your completely welding them

These are our bread and butter, currently making 6m lengths 40mm pipe 25mm fin

20 down 80 to go lol

Needed a bit of 5&1/4" stainless pipe 2&1/2" long but could only get 6" so I cut a piece of 6". Then worked out how much needed to be removed from the circumference to make it 5&1/4 and cut it out then used a chain vicegrips to close it up and tiged the 2 ends back together

Now I just need to work it in the vice a bit to make it more round. Pic of the weld.

put it on a 4" pipe or tube and flatten it where the joint is this till bring it more into line than putting it in a vice

as the only place you need to work on is at the joint areas
try doing it with 5mm into 2 3/8s " x 4 1/2" ive done 3 circles of same size using that bar and a vice

View from my workshop door today.
Not made it but have been doing welding repairs to the hull, making/welding aerial/laser brackets and altering consoles to house different computers and survey equipment.

It seems silly that the car rad, if filled when cold, will expand during the first drive and dump a load of water overboard. On my 1952 Minor I added a plastic bottle to the overflow system so that when the rad threw out some water it was caught and then sucked back into the rad as the engine cooled. On the 1966 Minor I went up-market and tie-wrapped an empty bottle of 'Jacobs Creek' to do the same task. Today I decided to make a slightly more fancy one for the 1949 Lowlight. I cut up an old Tri*mph master cylinder for the cap, turned a small ali thingy for the outflow and cut up an old piece of ali tube that I found in the garage and welded end caps onto it. Not up to Langy standards but I'm quite pleased.

EDIT: can anyone tell from the poor pic if the darker one is what my mate refers to as a "green" wheel, i.e. better for dealing with HSS?

As far as I knew, green grit wheels were OK for carbide tips on lathe tools so I would say are OK for turning tools and possibly for Tungsten's as well
I would leave the grey courser one for mild steel.
