Stuff you have made today

My mate came to my unit today to use my mig on his Land Rover so I left him to it.
He was well pleased with his creation, so I had to have a look.
Tom I said, you ain't turned the gas on!!
So today i didn't make anything, but my mate made a right mess..... but he was over the moon!!

I was at a friends place, he has a lathe. I had some scrap pipe fittings.

But what is it?



A small soot pot. To blacken parts to test fit.

A small platform for raising the compressor so that I can store my trolley jack underneath it. Just bits of odd angle etc I had lying about outside ] It'll have the added bonus of raising the tank to facilitate draining. There are about 4 decent welds on it, forgot to turn on the gas again after turning it off to fix a small leak in the supply hose..... Couldn't understand what was wrong and was blaming the gusty wind [quiet at the back! ].
Shown in primer, but now painted in Lidl green paint, which coincidentally is a pretty close match for the Parkside colour.
Will post a pic of the finished article when the paint dries.

Tell the truth, your lads made the rounders bats and you tried to copy them but it just didn't quite work out, so now it is a pestle

Should have said its ok off cuts, turned, then 80, 120, 240, burnish with shavings and wax finish

I've made my nose hurt by standing on the end of a rake shaped thing I made last week. although I'd rather it had been a rake as they dont have wire tensioners on them at nose height..

I started off by doing this (if the pics work)...

which led to a bit of this...

Then I did a bit of marking out

and got jiggy with a smaller slitting saw: choose yer tool

Clocking the vice to make sure the cut is perpendicular to it:

Damn, too late to edit my previous post so... where was I?

Oh yes...
After four cuts with the 3/32" saw I swapped it for something wider to quickly take out the middle...

which got me to here - and by now some of you will know where this is heading

Next it was time for the mill to do its Optimus Prime routine and switch from being a rough old horizontal to a smooth sophisticated vertical machine:

A rummage in a drawer turned up a couple of unused T-slot cutters; one was too big but the smaller one was just right...

A couple of passes took it to here:

Then the block needed tipping up 45 degrees to line up for the angley bits (techie term )...

and before I knew where I was, there I was:

Just a quick tickle top and bottom with an end-mill (the only one I could find with a shank big enough for any of my ER40 collets, had to sharpen it freehand on a green grit wheel!) to put pretty patterns on:

Well yeah, sort of... it'll have a post for holding a DTI, but it won't be on a mag base as the block is made from aluminium

I thought if I left it over-length at one end it'd give me more options for how to use it...
