Having a go at wet moulding leather for a phone case. This is the result of my 3rd attempt on a piece of scrap. It's improving every time. The wood is an offcut of shiplap timber I found under the shed, cut to a little bigger than the size of my phone. Not shown us the matching "U" shaped piece of ply that fits over the top keeping the wet leather in place while it takes shape. I know it's not much to look at, but hopefully all these little improvements will add up to some nice leatherwork further down the line. I've already got requests for wallets, phone cases, dog collars, bum bags etc from family and friends. It's turning out to be a popular hobby.

I've not started "making" this yet but the pile of bits needed to make my first little aluminium boat arrived this week.
All 3mm marine grade and not an awful lot of it so hopefully it shouldn't take me too long.
I might well start a project thread if I remember to take enough photos.

All the fold lines and weld locations come pre marked which is nice, got 3 pieces that need folding so tapping up one of my local sheetmetal badgers will be my first job.

Will look forward to a project of that, when I was working with glassfibre boats I always planned to make an alloy 5mtr fast fisher but it was one of those projects that never got done sadly.

Nothing welding related , but I'v been fed up with the low water pressure in my irrigation system for the veg plot ... It's all runs on gravity I fill up a 1,000 ltr tank from the house... and I have a network of a pipes called agridrip just under the surface, I plant stuff next to on on top of the pipes...so the plan was the raise up the tank to give it and bit more head ...Its at the highest part of the plot... The other plan was not to spend ANY money.... so I found some pallets ,building blocks, and a few bits of heavy timber ...I'll test it tomorrow......

looks strong enough at the moment but what about in a few years when the pallets rot ?

How big is the boat, any pics of a finished one?

It's a 12' boat, easy enough to tip over and sling in the alleyway down the side of the house and the garden fence.
Should go well with a 15 horse outboard motor.

The scuppers (cutouts) under the rub rail are optional, I chose the non scupper version.

Did a kit boat 10 years ago although it was a one off so not a kit in that sense, just a big jigsaw really

To be honest this a bit of a test ,to find out wether lifting the tank a metre or so make a significant difference to the flow rate.
If we find it does ,I'll spend some cash and make a steel tower ... ideally.. if I was in the UK something like this I'd use some railway sleepers ,but as there has never been a railway here ...they only sell them in the hens teeth shop , thats only open in a month of Sundays...

10 meters of lift will give you 1 bar of static head, therefore 1 meter will give you .1 bar extra. Is the ball valve on the outlet full bore, as the valve its self looks to be a flow restriction, but at the low rates you are using cant see it make much difference.

Yes the outlet from the tank is Inch...the ball valve is an Inch,there is a short length of inch hose sitting inside a 3 inch pipe that runs down the field about 50 metres , Ive left this open to stop it air locking . The half inch agridrip connects to this at 90 degrees with a tap so I can zone it and water each 25 metre row individually....I 'm gonna fill the tank in the morning and try it out then plant a row of cabbages ....

It would put it under with the weight so the only way you would be moving was down
