Just wondering why you are removing the Inboards and fitting outboards?
I know it might be obvious to some but I just wondered?

Also if an engine needs replaced then an outboard can be done in a day even if it means borrowing one from a dealer until a new one arrives, usually within a week. Inboards can have 2 months wait for a new one and can take a day or two to get fitted depending on how awkward they are and how much alignment is required.
Lost time at sea can work out very expensive especially if it is the middle of the season where a lost few days can cost many thousands.

Sort of, not quite sure where it will be as it is sitting a lot lower, 150mm at the stern, from where the top of the painted waterline is. I have done some changes to the pod design today, hopefully it will raise the engines 115mm without cavitation issues.

Just to keep it out of the water as much as possible.
The one thing that governs the height is the anti-cavitation plate, it needs to be in line with the bottom of the hull (give or take a wee bit) so you do not have to much choice in the positioning.
I have now sloped the pods upwards on the bottom in the hope that it will not cause issues and this has allowed me to raise the engine 115mm.
As I said I don't have a clue where the waterline will end up, it was way off but I am hoping that removing the two inboards and the sterndrives will lift it up a good bit even though I will obviously have the two outboards and the donkey engine and the weight of the Aluminium pods.
The weight will be less than before but further back but there will also be buoyancy in the pods so.... time will tell I suppose. If there is a problem with the engines being raised the 115mm I can chop a bit out the pods and lower them quite easily, will just be the steering rod that will be a pain.

2nd staircase built and installed also the 3rd floor has also been fitted with a steel beam that has to be bolted to the wall

and a visit from health and safety they have a job to do
old staircases have been ripped out now and old beams are having to be replaced into the wall from the trimmer beams
finding the original floor beams are going to be fun as its a protected site

The weak point has to be the joint between the boat and the pod. How are you connecting the two?

Yes I see, the original drive was bolted that way so the pods will be as secure. Most of the force is laterally through the hull while under way anyway.

Todays job.
Ram for a trawler, bearing surfaces on cast ram body badly worn, bronze housing also badly worn so both needed sorting.
Gripped the ram in the vice on the Chiron and milled round to true up one side.
Other side has to be spot on true with this side and with the wear there was no way of measuring/clocking things in so the solution was to throw a chuck onto the Chiron and bore out some soft jaws to the 45.5mm dia I had machined the first side to.
Once done I could place the machined boss into the chuck and I now had things exactly centred and 180 degrees rotated so I could start machining the second side.
It was more worn than the other side and to clean it up I had to take it down to 40mm.
Next job was to bore out the housing, clamped it together and threw it in the 4 jaw.
Boring the back first as it was the most worn.
Then did the front and made the same dia as the back one.
Last job was to machine a couple of Delrin bushes to tap onto the Ram.
Completed job below. Still have to make up two rudder tube bushes and a pintle bush from 140mm Dia Acetal but that can wait until tomorrow.

Well today I did the bushes, straightforward turning job just hope they fit as the tube is well hacked up and the rudder shaft and pintle are well worn.
Chuck up the Acetal and turn a short bit enough to grip in chuck.
Turn around in chuck, turn OD then start to drill.
Then bore out to size
Finished bushes with the obligatory clorty mug for scale.
Anyone want to buy some Acetal in fragmented form?

I have often thought of making up a core drill by hacking up a suitable hole saw and welding it to a thin walled tube but the problem is I would need quite a few as sizes vary greatly, also length, these ones being 150mm long but others can be longer. Also not sure how well the "saw dust" would behave as it would likely melt with the heat once you got in a bit and weld itslef to the part and the saw.
The material is paid for by the person getting the job done so I don't lose out there and Delrin/Acetal is really nice to machine, you can take huge cuts so also fast to machine.
I was boring out at a DOC of 10mm per pass so 20mm on Dia.
I love milling and turning Delrin, it is just so nice especially when compared to Nylon.

Finally got started to the pods late afternoon. Got the 3D drawing segmented and then programmed for the plasma and cut some Alu up, enough for one pod and some parts for the other.
This is one pods of bits on my welding bench
Only got 4 bits tacked together before home time but so far it looks like it is all going to fit together, hope to get on a bit better tomorrow but that will depend on how many interruptions I get.
