A new tailboard for my Ifor Williams P6e.

It currently has a ramp which, whilst useful when transporting bikes, also acts as a very effective air brake and ruins the fuel consumption on my rather weedy 1.4 VW T-Roc. My steel supplier kindly donated a couple of metres of offcut 25mm square tube, I picked up the circular hollow section in the UK last week together with a bit of 2mm Ali sheet, stuck it all together and took it to the galvanisers this morning who had the shirt off my back and a couple of limbs. All in it was still cheaper than a new one from Ifor, but only just.

I’ve put super seal connectors on the lights so I can quickly swap them as required.

Cheer me up! I was thinking of having a couple of angle iron frames (fence infill panels) galvanised. I'd probably go to Medway. What were you charged per tonne if you don't mind me asking?

We’ll, this is France for starters…

I rolled up at the only galvanisers for 100kms this morning to find it like a mortuary - no one around, office empty so went upstairs to find the secretary who apparently hadn’t seen another human in a while - looked horrified when I walked in - go press the green button by the front door she says, so I go back down…

Press the green button as instructed and a siren goes off announcing Armageddon has started, holy cow what have I done?? Anyway a bloke eventually ambles up, has a look and then summons his mate. The task is no problem, but the boss charges minimum 200 euros plus VAT, but if I leave it with them and come back at 3.00 this afternoon before the boss returns, 50 euros cash. As this is about the price of three rattle cans here I think OK, why not?

I do wonder how anything gets done too! That said most places I deal with work 08.00 to 18.00, some until 19.00, obviously with the 2 hour lunch break thrown in.

The galvanisers are a big outfit - a massive building serving an agricultural supplies business next door - they make feed troughs, fencing, cattle crushes etc. all of which goes for galvanising, and opposite is a trailer manufacturer, most of whose production goes through there too.

Had a go at putting a curve on some sheet steel. The Gabro manual shows how it can be done



Only problem is I have just the 1 clamp bar and its bevelled on the 1 edge to accommodate greater that 90⁰ bends so didn't want to spoil it by welding a length of 25mm bar

So plan B was to clamp it in the folder, make a small bend, unclamp and move it out a little, clamp and repeat

Ended up with this, pure guesswork but turned out close enough, edge on the right isn't a straight cut so looks odd but curve is pretty consistent

Pretty nervous Day
So started well , with a friend we went to fishing in the morning at 4AM
Not got paid for a job done Sunday.
Got confirmed that a customer won't pay for an air compressor which I've sent it back to him completely disassembled after seeing him refusing to pay 50 euros to rebuild the pump ,so now he has at least 120 pieces of an air compressor (300 euros new)
Done that because of his insolence , underrating my time and my intelligence as an human.
Back to a job site which I should have closed many months ago but again because of others I couldn't close earlier , they refused to pay because not me but other idiots slowed me down and touched things they shouldn't have.
No money over here too.
So my friend the nice guy I was is dead today.
I wouldn't be as flexible as I was anymore , especially with customers

When I was at the iron foundry they used to cast them with any left over from the melt. Strangely, iron ones last a lot longer than steel.
