My only question is this bit - that doesn't look as if it's part of the round-cylinder stiffenator, is it?

They're quite unusual on a DRO I think?Need to sort the dro now what plugs are these on the display. I need to find some leads
Ha ha Henry is king of the shop now. It's tidy in there for once and I can actually work in it nowDamn thats a nice workshop, like that "henry" is looking up and admiring the new mill in one of the pics.
DB9 serial, like this guy:Usb is on the scale end like my calipers. The other bit smaller than a network cable is the display end. What does your kit have
I have one cable with a good end for the scales the other ends are missingDB9 serial, like this guy:
Do you have the cables and plugs on your scales?
I presume they're straight through cables then (can't imagine why they'd make them any other way).I have one cable with a good end for the scales the other ends are missing
I still need usb on the other endI presume they're straight through cables then (can't imagine why they'd make them any other way).
I found this that suggests that you just need pins 1, 4, 5 and 8.
(source doc - PDF)
Probably worth taking one of the cables and plugging it into your display, then measure pins 1 & 8 - if you get +5VDC across them then that diagram is probably right. Then either use pre-built 8-wire RJ45 (aka CAT5) cables or crimp your own on.
Had a go of the mill today do you use a arbour or the standard jacobs chuck with the cutters
Huh.I have 4 cables in the plug so it's smaller than a data cable
