Even if it was a little dearer The ewm would be a better buy, id be a bit hasty shelling out 6k for a used machine tbh.
What does the EWM 350 go out for new roughly.

Every day is school day. Update on my cooler. Was welding a thick lump of cast yesterday evening in the form of a track bike swing arm that had had a spill. Was hammering the Rehm and all going well but I noticed the torch was taking longer to cool than usual. On further investigation the pump motor (that had been running for a few hours was really warm. The spec says it's designed to get hot but it's keeping all the hoses and pump warm and my little exchanger isn't enough. The pulse pump I used on my last build was much better as that stayed cool through all manner of current and the exchanger was plenty. So ive had to add a second heat exchanger as I'm not changing pumps now.
Any way it's a result. Pump still gets hot but water is now like ice even with current behind it. 2 heat exchangers now.
Problem is it's not a compact cooler no more it looks like a bloody power station. And the worst of it is how the hell am I gonna box that s### up.
Tbh it would of probably been alright as it was no warmer than Luke warm bath water but my perfectionist side said it wasn't good enough.
Now it's ultra efficient probably cope with 400-500 amps but now it's big and untidy.
Paint won't fix this. I need a rethink.

Well the coils of copper worked fine on the last one with the pulse pump ive used computer rads and they ain't much better than this.
It's a good exchanger that holds a lot of water infront of the fan. The motor is causing my problem. It's really hot after long running and heating everything up around it. A little rad won't solve that.

Motors got a fan.
Perhaps it needs a bigger one.
My exchangers work well usually and I notice a huge difference when used without them but in this case it's not enough.
It's hooked up to a big rad now as you can see in the pic but it's just not compact now so ive resolved the water heating problem.
Downsizing is gonna make it warm up again I reckon.

NA. It's a wonderful thing. And with that big rad could cope with twice what the machine can put out. I do wish Id opted for a pulse pump as they don't generate any extra heat so the worst case scenario I sell the pump and buy what a want and ditch the big rad or I just paint it up and leave it as is. I don't intend on moving it around. I've got my gas cooled 17 for mobile work so it's not all gloom. Might swap pumps and ditch the rad or might leave it alone with big rad.

I could do that with this exchanger if I wanted but again it's not what I want. I want it ALL inside the box just like the other one I built. I've looked at other coolers that use this pump like the parweld and Tecarc coolers. The pump is kept miles away from the rest of it in an open grill at the bottom and the coolers are huge with big rads and now I see why. My mistake.
My Fronius cooler used the pulse pump as did the little Lincolns with tiny rads and fans just like the one I built for badgerbear. I didn't realise it till just now but the pumps play a huge part in how cool they run and the measures needed to keep them cool. IMO pulse pumps are the way to go. Noise and vibration can be resolved. My Kemppi cooler was a motor and inline shurflow pump with a huge tank and monster exchanger and that's a step backwards in my eyes. The Esab caddy coolers are tiny and loads better. As was my 15 year old fronius FK2000.

Looks like the same or similar pump used in my CR1000, they use a two stage rad, the pump motor has larger fins that yours and the rear cowling for the motor is removed with a larger open fan that cools the rad, one fan does both motor and rad, in my case it's still a little **** about face IMO as cool air is drawn in from the front, through the motor and out through the rear exiting the rad, I'd draw cool air in through the rad and then past the motor for extra cooling but I guess they know something I don't and want the motor cooled first. The fan on the rear of the pump motor is twice the size from what I saw when I looked through the side vents.
