No for a compression test once set if I remember correctly correctly. That’s how they get the C30/C35 etc figure

A slump cone is used for the slump test. These are for sampling concrete, then curing and crush testing to make sure concrete is to spec.
I used to crush at 7 days, 14 days and the last 2 at 28 days - tests the early strength of concrete so you could strip shutters early for suspended concrete slabs/beams etc.

I'm constantly amazed by the knowledge on this site...cheers...I remember my old man doing the cone test on a site once...never saw the cubes but makes sense.

Yep, concrete crushing cube moulds. You make the cubes and send them in for crushing at specified periods as mentioned above.
You do't usually buy them, what you do is hire them (or get them on free loan from the testing company). Someone's going to be sorry that they got left behind - the hire might be cheap but the replacement cost certainly isn't. That's why they sell so well on eBay - better to buy them for 50 quid than replace them for 500.

I'm in Newcastle could possibly pick it up for you and send on if its a too good to miss deal.
The chap selling it is working at Derby next week which is about 150miles each way for me, so better than 200. But he has a mate who drives a truck all over the country but typically he's in Scotland this week so hoping I can work something out next week. But thanks for the offer.

If you do, dismantle and clean them one at a time. The sides are not always interchangeable as the roll pin positions can vary. If you mix them up, sometimes the only way you can get them to be square and flat is to drive the pins back flush with the face.
150mm cubes are less popular these days. For some strange reason, 100mm cubes give higher crush strengths for the same concrete than 150mm ones. 100mm ones take less concrete to fill, so the cubie has to carry less weight about in his/her bucket . They are less weight to cart around when the test lab's van calls. The only advantage of the larger ones is they withstand harsh treatment a little better than the smaller ones.

My first ever job on a building site was making these up every morning before brewing up for the paddy's! £15 cash in hand a week for an hours work a day after my paper rounds! £35 a week, I was rich I tell yis, rich!
I then started my apprenticeship and only earned £28.50 a week full time on a thieving Thatcherite YTS scheme!

It's bad ATM with stock levelsI know that fact all too well. Handy, until the time you forget which shop you placed that online order with.
Last week I collected orders from 2 Toolstations and 3 Screwfix on the same morning.
At least they were all In mk.
Next day collection is a joke right now. 3 to 4 days usually

Today I picked up one of Lidl's 240V heat guns [had to try 2 x stores the one I was successful only had 3 left so can't see them making it to their 'Reduced' bin 
] and sets of their wire brushes and "locking pliers".
Also, while in the Inverness branch of H.I.S looking [unsuccessfully
] for other stuff, picked up one of these from a bin - and @The_Yellow_Ardvark will love this - marked "FREE".

I won't use it on the car but it could do on the windows, when God neglects his/her duties and I'm forced to clean them myself i.e. when it gets too dark inside.....
Had I managed to buy what I was looking for I would have asked for another but I didn't have the skin on my face....
And, as an aside, a good clinic report where the para-protein level has fallen yet again, down to 2.0 from 2.5 from the last bloods. Only have to attend monthly from here on in as long as the readings hover around that level or [being positive (greedy?
)
