Some really nice ally for me to play with on my lathe, so nice in fact I don't want to use it unless it's definitely for a purpose

Got this this morning.
The side cheek, facing us was after I rubbed it down with 600 grit wet and dry to see how bad the rust was.
As you can see, it is not too bad.

After a few hours hard work, this is what I got. A decent plane, now set for very fine shaving of hard woods.
I do need to get a new blade, but for now it will do.
The handle took 3 egg cups of Linseed oil, but they buffed up very well. The original finish was oil based, not a varnish, what was a nice surprize.
This is how bad the metal work was after de rusting.
2 hours in my new re-rusting tank with a heater element and they came up nice.
In all I am happy.

Finally I have aquired...............after 4 and a half years a letter.....
the nightmare would seem to be over. Now all I need to do is wait for some money from my pension overpayment and decide if its worth going after the bloke who set me up and owes me money????/

Oooh, nice. So shiny...
You have the same problem as me, I'd struggle to turn them into swarf unless it was for an important job!
I've bits of good metal (thick plate mainly which is like gold to me) that I've had for years but won't use because it's so good it needs to be kept for a really worthy, important job!

Car boot today was a sad affair.
The 3 big charities have taken over and now dominate the main entrance with "bucket chuggers" walking the site.
A few of the better "booters are gone, one old chap is giving up when his lease expires in Easter.
Oh well.
I got this, don't need it. But it feels good and is a nice weight.

I picked this 1/2" CARDINAL chuck UK today, it's got a MT1 taper and came with MT1 to MT2 adapter. £5.
Does anyone know much about it?
Then picked up box of bits again a fiver.
Dormer, SKF, Guhring. The drills and mills look unused!

Those cardinal chucks are beautiful. A mt3 version came on an old pillar drill I got last year. I'm having trouble finding a key for it though.

Thanks, it's not spring loaded and the ID is 1/8".
It came with a 1/8" long thin drill bit so maybe it's to hold them more easily in a bigger chuck.
@balmerchris the chuck seems very nicely made but I'm too missing the chuck key!
Not sure if I can get the taper out to change it to MT3.

Brilliant, how does it come apart? Mine looks like its got a rounded out cap head inside it, not sure if it's a left handed thread though. The chuck has a slight tight spot in it but I don't want to wreak it if that bolt doesn't want to move.
