I suspect a lot of us will acquire that soon. We've dodged it for two years now, but I'm not optimistic now as the new one is so contagious that unless we take provisions and live somewhere as hermits for the next month or two I can't see how we'll avoid it.

Same here , Whole house has avoided it but now a lot of news mentions of be ready to get it if and accept it will infect everyone

But, please: Could you please tell me if this Milwaukee stuff is really really good - I see it all over the US Youtubers - or is it the purposefully created impression, through a clever advertising strategy and the lack of other good alternatives over there in the colonies?

After all, it comes from the same manufacturer as the Ryobi stuff that's not even half as expensive .... what am I to believe???

I was looking at them online but not seen one up close. I’ve the small magnetic folding ones and they’re really good but only a couple hours each.

Yes mate it's all top drawer gear. A lot of tradesmen use dewalt/makita stuff but engineers and farms who do the real rough tough jobs tend to have milwaukee in the toolbox.

Had a ryobi driver partly because the it had the highest torque in its class at the time. Was a beast hammering in long screws but milwaukee fuel is in different class now.


They are probably also pretty good at marketing though.

Seems really good. The guys at work have loads of stuff. One of their 3/4 guns unscrews my trucks wheel nuts like it’s nothing.

I already have 18volt makita stuff which does everything I need really but I wanted some smaller bits, I do have the makita 12volt drill and impact driver but they’re so rubbish, I’ll be buying the Milwaukee angle drill at some point, they’re really good.

I was looking at them online but not seen one up close. I’ve the small magnetic folding ones and they’re really good but only a couple hours each.

Seems good, as soon as I opened it I had a clumsy moment, dropped it, tried to catch it and then accidentally threw it across the yard. No damage at all. I got this torch the other day too.

Also not sure how long it lasts because I only got it yesterday but my plan with it was that I can re charge a spare battery all the time whilst using it so no need to worry about it going flat with three batteries.

I stuck with Makita.

Having said that, when you are spending £2k plus for tools to use every day, personal choice is the biggest factor

I could argue all day but honestly, Milwaukee wasn't for me.

Budget was not an issue, in fact a lot of the Milwaukee stuff is relatively cheap

I also demand a lot from my tools, mechanics might think they are using them in a tough environment, well I'd like to see them crawl through a loft or under a floor with them, suddenly 1/2kg of extra weight for no real increase in output suddenly matters

But like I say, personal choice is key at the top, I had no allegiance as I planned to replace everything so I visited shops and handled the tools, kept away from YouTube reviews or pointless tests, joining tools together until one breaks is a waste of a tool

Got mates who used to be die hard AEG fans. I remember them buying up AEG "blue" drills, heavy duty, metal geared, metal chucked wrist breakers on end of line deals. The "orange" AEG ones that followed following the takeover/rebranding were cr@p. That's not just an opinion. I bought an AEG brushed 18V drill and the sparks coming out the back were like Fireworks Night. Took it back, got a refund and went Makita. Never looked back.

For years I used Bosch sds drills, first the 24v then the 36v in both standard and compact, the compact took some proper abuse

Other brands caught up and having one battery appealed, can now drill with an 18v that would have been mains or 36v only a few years ago

Recently gone over to milwaukee, and for what I use it's been fine, only thing I don't like is the drill chuck slackens off regularly and you have to dog it down far too tight for it to grip properly. Their little impacts guns, I have 2 off the M12) are perfect for the 1/4 stuff which is what I mostly use for the small engine kit repairs, they're excellent, light, small and easy to get in everywhere... for the bigger stuff I mostly use air tools anyway.

I had Dewalt 18v plug in battery stuff, including the rare lithium batteries released before the change to slide on. These got stolen and were replaced with whatever I could to keep working.

Looking at the newer Dewalt and I was unimpressed, definite cheapening going on

I think personal choice is the key here , Had all sorts over the years some excellent some not so good I like the big M build quality etc but I also find them to big and bulky when you could be using it all day long it needs to fit nicely in the hand and not be over heavy imo.
also keeping to a brand saves, having loads of different batteries and chargers and yes I know you can get adapters for the batts I've been running hikoki/ hitatchi for some time now without any real issues I'm also liking the 18/36 multivolt to.

It’s fine. Not like a proper drill but it’s good for where you can’t get. I don’t use it much, actually. I tend to use my desoutter collet drills for tight spaces. Usually it’s snapped bolts or something. 90 degree die grinder is worth every penny if you’re on a shopping spree

That’s what I meant earlier. Their impact guns are good. Although my makita impact guns are really impressive. Well the big one is, I undid my truck wheel nuts when I first got it.

Amazingly the snap on stuff are total rubbish. One of the guys I work with has some snap on bits, I think they’re awful.

That’s the one. I liked it. More so because it’s so small. The makita 18volt one is pretty big in comparison.
I was thinking about that die grinder. Why not
