Both that and the 3hp motor were a 2 man lift, the motor more so.

Get to your local car boot sales, early. Have a look around.
Read your local free paper and see what's in the free to collector adverts'.
Charity shops, get known to the staff, tools are hard for some to sell on. avoid the big charities shops. They need to make money. I said my views on that in the past.
Check your local auction houses, get on their mailing lists. Go along and see what is left. Get to know the staff, they may be kind to let you have a look in their "Can not sale " piles.
Second hand shops. They have a host of stuff, rummage and find. Like wise with house clearance shops. But one bit of advice you may end up with a bargain hidden in a pile of junk.
But junk or rubbish can have a value, take them to your local scrap yard. They may let you swop or buy stuff for a bit more than scrap value.
Jumble sales, village sales, and local fairs are good places to hunt for deals.
Never take from a skip with out asking, that is a host off issues. Theft is a word.
But go to the skip yards and ask.
Oh yes, never say no to something offered, you will soon get to be known as some one looking.

, eight truck rims and two truck tyres. All stuffed into my towbarge/toolcart/kennel.
You have to remember that most auctions, particularly daytime auctions during the working week were frequented by the trade, also, the public are prepared to pay more than the trade and still get a bargain, with flea bay anybody can advertise anytime and sell anything to anyone silly enough to pay some of the prices.

All the auctions houses near me, @pdg has one I use near me. Will have viewing times at time suitable to the working people to visit and view. They will even have decent images on the On line or paper copy, so a good look can be had.
A lot, the ones I use will allow you place a "silent Bid", with the maximum you are willing to spend. How this happens depends on the house, eg how you pay etc.
The bigger ones will hold sales in the evening and at weekends.
Go along and ask, what have you got to loose.
E bay used to be good, but I suggest you Google E bay tips on finding a bargain. Gum tree is better.

stopped at a guy putting some stuff out for scrap , had spotted a large barbeque lid and thought the curved metal would do nicely to fix a lawnmower base im working on , as well as some scrap there was a vice , a chainsaw (have had running...lol ) , dyson hoover which works perfect , a Kirby hoover , electric hedge trimmer , plus a load more including two bar stools and a rotating table , I'm glad I saw the barbeque lid and stopped...lol

As some as you know I acquired 2 nice, but unloved and old panel saws.
Here is the final update.
Handles cleaned up, the picture shows one of the many coats of wax being rubbed. The wax is bee's wax thinned down with white spirit. It soaks in and gives a nice working finish.
Both finished, both set and given and quick dress with a file to hone the teeth.
Finish on the handles is lots of wax and allowed to steep for a week.
Blades are rubbed in linseed oil and wax.
I may replaced one handle has it has old wood worm damage. Not enough to weaken the part. it just looks bad.
I have some oak salvaged from a chest of drawers what may be re used for that.
Don't hold your breath, as I have to much to do.. Like the hand brace just visible

I've seen quite a few Ajax mills but never one quite like that.

I sold the remains of a small Ajax slotting machine a couple of years back that had similarly shaped castings. I think it was of better than average Taiwanese manufacture.
Might be worth shooting an email off to Tony at lathes.co.uk as he can be good for info on obscure machines.

Thanks Scruffy, I think its an AJ9 but theres no pics of it on Tonies site, and no other pics I can find. Its pretty solid, took me 2 hours to get it up the ramp into my garage hahhaha

A super rare vintage shop sign from one of my favourite tool-makers. $10 - lightly pencilled on the back is $85, so I'm pretty happy! I shall have to keep my eye out for a M&W screwdriver
