1/4 horsepower sounds about right, also considering its physical size. I've learned that the Kennedy #60 model saws were fitted with 1/6th horsepower motor, and the model #90 saw was fitted with either a 1/4 horse Hoover or a LEMAC motor; there was no mention of the Kennedy company ever using other brands .

Edit: Is CR an abbreviation for "Continuous Rating", or in other words, "Continuous Duty" ?

Bean away for a few days, camped out on the beech last night. But I did find some nice bits.




3 planes. Plus a tin of Danish oil.
The Danish oil had a damaged lid, so it had leaked a bit, but for £2. It was worth a punt.



The 2 nice moulding planes, all they need is a wax and a quick dress of the blades.



Stanley rebate plane, needs some major work as all the fixings are seized.

240x2.3 = 552w / 745.7 = 0.74 hp (input)
Are they really so inefficient that 2/3 of the electrickery is converted to heat?

Old neighbour sadly now gone was asking me about buying a Dyson a few years ago, had a word with bloke at the tip he gave me two the same, one was blocked other broken mains cable , she was over the moon one upstairs one down. Shocking what people throw away

I got a near brand new Henry from a front garden recently. Yes,I did ask them before I took it. Broken mains lead at the end of the spool where it had been dragged around. A common fault.

Picked up a Vax 121, that the cable had been twisted so badly on it had broken both the inner and outer insulation, for free.

Also have 4?, Henry/Hetty units that were being thrown because of various faults. At worst I’ve had to replace the speed control board and a cable, oh, one wanted a fuse.

We’ve vacuum cleaners EVERYWHERE!!

Same method here. I hadn't realised there was such a large disparity on input vs output either.

Looked at the plate on a 1/4 horse motor in the shed last night, and BS is spot on. 2.3A that one reads.

It's an old motor, maybe the horses are smaller now, cos of inflation - waggon wheels certainly are.

Times power factor!

For a motor under little load, the power factor could be as low as 0.5 (according to a quick Google, under no load it could be 0.17).

Of course there is still some energy lost to resistance and friction, just not as much as it initially seems.

A 16A supply in the workshop so I can use the welder to, hopefully, its full potential. Project Management, as I affectionately refer to her, insisted that we get a qualified electrician in; I could have done it myself but better to be safe. He'd fitted a plug to the Parweld too, not that I anticipated that at all, and I'd bought one at Screwfix on the way home... lucky I had as he'd fitted a bigger 32A plug! I'll let him know and check it isn't on the invoice...

Oh, if anyone can make use of the old Wylex NHRS204/63 consumer unit let me know and you can have it for postage and a pint - has a Wylex 63A/30mA WRS63/2 RCD installed.
