Cost is somewhat relative to income too. You may earn more weekly over there, hence making the prices relatively comparable.

Income here is lower than say Germany, where gas is about as cheap as in the UK. People here who use welding gas all know we're being shafted but not much we can about it unless we're like some people who take german vacations and bring back a couple of 50l bottles.

I might have found a crack in the oligopoly situation in Finland. There's a site called suomikaasu that might sell 50l bottles to private customers. As a private customer, the 11 liter ALbee bottle has been the biggest bottle you could get. And before that the standard was 5 liters max, there were some dark years in the 90s with even worse situations. We have 3 companies on the market now, or four with this one. It's almost 500 euros though for a 50 liter bottle. But that's still 40% cheaper per liter than the gas I buy now.

Today I acquired this, I originally made it for a customer probably 10 years ago and he is retiring so gave it to me to keep or break for parts. I am unlikely to use it but for as long as I have room I will keep it intact as I feel it a shame to break for parts.

First thought was "Is it a crap lathe?" It's a coil winder, right?

Yes, a coil winder. I had never seen one before so made it similar to a lathe however I don't think I had much option as it had to be capable of winding coils from 15mm long onto 1mm Dia Mu core to 500mm long on 50mm dia iron tube core.
