Marples did a hard rubber cap to allow the use of a metal hammer on those wonderful wood working tools.

I only ever saw one in use in real life.

The green plastic ones were the cheapest and meant only for hand work. The blue ones were for use with mallets, and the yellow/red ones were for mallets and hammers.

Placed a very cheeky bid on this last week and accepted yesterday.
Perfect excuse to visit bracehand (owners of smart and brown)
Top man even dug around and found me a lever cross slide on pieces. Needs fettling but great for my needs. Damage shouldnt effect use for my needs.

Well long term it probably will.
Opens up plenty of possibilities too adding the capstan and lever slide cnc controlled.
Wouldnt be hard to make an auto feed.
Must ask if they have a collet handle lock actually.

Pie in the sky atm. Grabbed it to give added function to a second lathe.
Now to start building tooling for it.

Do the SB lathes have a suds pump? You could build a fish tank guard for it and gush your work with coolant

Both did. The m is missing. The l doesn't look like it was fitted from factory
Put some thought into one system to feed all 3 machines.

Time will tell.

Mint in packaging, found in a tiny diy shop today at the back of the rack, $30. The old guy at the shop said it was a bargain at that price and it is tbh. I asked him if he had any more but alas this is the last. You can strike these with a hammer.

I have a 1/2" one of those, my 2nd favourite chisel. Great steel in it and takes some work to get a good edge but the edge lasts for ages. It's only beaten by an old 3/4" head I found, unknown make, made my own handle but the steel is super quality & nearly impossible to blunt! You can batter all day with a hammer on oak doors & can still shave with it!

No names on them, the left one looks food based and the one on the right looks medical.

Yes I am keeping them.

Finally got one side of the garage cladding finished, The fake windows are some spare bits of lath and recycled 6mm poly carb sanded with the orbital to make them look opaque.

When the job is all finished the windows will be facing the neighbours drive and light up with LEDs, We are waiting for someone to try and get into the garage through the window, It will be a nice CCTV moment to watch them looking at a solid wall.
