Yep, you're right, I don't know how it's spelt either. Base of Apple, distilled, re distilled, and then you leave it to mature with oak chipping, and then you leave the cork gently placed in the neck so the 'Angels share' evaporates, which is some part alcohol, though not nesecarily the stuff which makes you go blind. Had my 41st last week, finished the evening with a load of mates this stuff and a box of cigars. Was utterly unable to go to work in the morning, and in the afternoon gave up and went home to bed. One glass ok, two (little) glasses ok, don't go further. It's a glass on a Sunday night for me, not every night.

I think it's mid to late 70's , if it fires up and runs it'll be used as a trimming saw, it's suprisingly small for a relatively high capacity engine. How do you find danarms running wise penfold, our old fella had them on the leccy board 40 odd year ago and said they were hellish saws to use but a pig to start

I wouldn't use my Danarm as a trimming saw it's too darn big, and yes mine's a pig to start, always has been. Like you say it has no vibration damping, no brake and I always have to remind myself it's a manual pump for the chain lube.

I think mine about 20" or 21" and it's an absolute beast of a saw, I've never had it get stuck once it just keeps on chewing through until the tree surrenders, the last one I cut down with it was a storm damaged tree that was 5ft diameter.

The compression is that good I've snapped a few pull starts in the past trying to get it to run, Does anyone know where's a good place to get spares for them ? the drum that the pull start centrifugal clutch grips has seen better days.

Oak aged, I'm not really a spirits man, and Ive tried similar over the last twenty years, but this stuff is lovely/dangerous. The first evening a mate and I 'sampled' it I woke up with an aching hip unable to remember why. Fortunately I have the wife who thoroughly reminded me. This should last me years and years.

Its so strong even the picture of it is blurred !

Today I went out with a friend, taking her dog for a walk. we ambled past a site were a caravan was dumped and then vandalised. It took the council 8 weeks to remove the wreck.

So imagine my surprize we ambled along the bridle way I found the following items.

The battery charger works, it is damp so it is the oven drying out.
The spanner is a 1/2 and 5/8 whit.
Not bad for a walk out.

Certainly seems a solid beast, no slop in the saddle, gearbox works spot on, the power feed and surfacing are spot on. Not a bad machine for a grand total of 200 quid

Looks like it's been painted by stevie wonder using a sweeping brush, and I had to adjust the clutch as someone had tightened it to the point where I would release, and there was a shear pin broke in the gearbox drive, aside from that its a good machine. There was also a few hardinge collets in the cabinet, however there's no collect chuck

Does it need a collet chuck or do they work directly in the spindle with a drawbar?

I don't know to be honest, it's all new to me!

Ok, according to lathes.co.uk it probably has a morse taper in the spindle...

Adaptors aren't too expensive to use drawn collets though.

I wouldn't even know where to start! I'm slowly self teaching myself machining

If you haven't already, get a copy of Sparey's The Amateur's Lathe or the Workshop series Lathework and Screwcutting in the Lathe.

its an addictive hobby when you get started but very humbling too.
pick up some carbide tooling off e bay, see if you can buy good quality secondhand ones, all you need is patience.

I've been doing ok on my little myford tbh, I've got the general idea,it's just the complex options of collet chucks etc I'm not sure on

For learning about basic lathe work you don't need a collet chuck; it's nice if one came with it but you definitely don't need it, a three jaw self-centreing and a 4 jaw is quite adequate.
