Seen one of these for sale and found this post doing a bit of research, what's the blade speed on one of these? I'm wondering if it's suitable for metal or is it a wood cutting saw only

Debated adding a second pulley to hear it down for metal cutting but it was made for timber. Speeds are way too high.
Probably get away with Ali and brass as is.

That one is Sitting in my shed now waiting for me to rebuild a motor I repaired and turn a new pulley.

I've only really interest in it if I can gear it down to be used for cutting steel, at least it's pulley and belt drive rather than direct drive like pretty much every other one I've seen for sale so shouldn't be hard to sort something. When I seen it for sale I instantly remembered seeing your one on here and wanting one.

I was looking at fitting a 6 pole 3 phase motor and vfd and a bigger pulley to get the speeds down.

Want it for wood more so shelved that idea.
If you wanted to run coolant would have to look at keeping it off the tyres. And would need brushes either way to keep the swarf out of the tyres too

The one I'm looking at is 3 phase but that's all I know so far. I love the look of the saw, looks really well built. Hopefully I'll be the owner shortly.

Today i acquired for nowt a Stanley 112 scraper plane, covered in filth & rust. Half an hour with wd40 & 400 wet & dry followed by a grey scotchbrite pad it is looking very smart. Good usable tool & aparently quite rare.

They are, specially with an original scraper blade. Even more so if it is acid etched with Stanley.

The blade will need a burr raised on it, U-Tube is your friend there.
The rear handle can crack along the grain, but it is easy to fix.

Now, to date I don't have one, but I restored one for a MIS Member.
He uses it for veneer work.
So I made a photo album up, with the step by step process. He was actively involved in it and it was a fun build.
As it went on he would tell stories of his work in the, what became, the MOD.

Acid etched, will be a dark grey to black finish, if you run a thumb nail across it, it will like a small pit.

Acid stamp will be a black finish, but without the pit.

At last, I can contribute to this thread! No pictures I'm afraid but I picked up a Four wheeled Mobility scooter chassis today but it also has the motor, seat, 'brain' charger and all the wiring. All for £40, a bargain I thought. I'm getting into building large scale models at the moment so It will come in very handy.

Went and collected the 5 axis cnc lathe yesterday. Pig of a job to get it out of the old place and into the new. Not helped by a total bellend at the warehouse where we collected it from,spending more time sweeping his beloved epoxy coated floor and make snide comments about how his floor is worth more than the lathe .How he manages to scratch it with a pallet truck with light cardboard boxes ,yet we skate out a 6 ton machine with a V8 disco,leaving no sctraches , eludes me. Special. Very special...Was tempted to get Sam to put the Disco in sand mode and floor it. He could have had a protective rubber coating on his beloved floor for nothing

Wouldn’t have been possible without my sons help,and the help of some good mates...

Cut down a dead tree for a friend so I got the wood , some of it is laid out so in order to send a mate an email pic. He wants to choose a piece for some arty lamp project.

The squared piece is from another tree , its survived a while because the hydraulic splitter can't currently cope with splitting it.

Also acquired a ball turner that actually fits my Zyto by way of a lot of hand filing yesterday.

Been done,( not by me), was sold on e-bay a few years ago for, it think, £1200. Not a bad price considering the work that had gone into it. But as an unauthorised copy, you can't earn money from it without the BBC breathing down your neck.
