There is a cat ladder up to a first floor window that I see when waiting at a local set of traffic lights, same idea as yours but each step appears to be bracketed to the wall, an elegant solution if you live in a first floor flat and have an outdoor cat.

That would have been the simple way of doing it, but we had external cladding fitted to our walls, and I don’t want to go near that stuff.

Listen, the architects should be upping their game and using pretty colours for their drawings. I am ahead of them by using 3 colours. Who needs straight lines, proper angles, and measurements, when you have three colours, AND pink paper.

Today I acquired a few bits of steel....literally! I went to my steel place to see what I could get, hoping specifically to get some round mild bar around 8 10mm. The main skip was almost empty [Master of Timing, me ] other than a few offcuts of thick plate and about 1 foot of water.

But a helpful lad directed me to another skip which was quite full of treasure, if I'd been on on the lookout for large bits of 3/4" >1" thick plate. Then I spotted exactly what I was after and plenty of it. Much happiness!!......except it was under at least a ton of this other stuff. I tried to put the lengths out but no go, so I started to move some about a bit, only to discover it was bits of a gate, cut in half but still attached to the big posts. Oh, well.

I could have asked one of the guys to cut it with a grinder but didn't want to pull him off his job in case he was seen and got into trouble. Also, I might just have been told to b*gger of and never darken their door again. That would have been a big No-No.

So, I came away with a few bits of round tube [bent, but that's OK] and some rectangular box. Not even enough to warrant a pic, sorry.

There'll be another day, though.

Two more hammers for the rack, another 2lb by Brades and a 3lb Snail brand. Never found a 3lb before so dead pleased. Need to get that 1lb hammer handled and I’ll be away.

Also, someone was interested in Elwell forge the other day. I thought they might like to see this lovely old tool I bought a while ago, don’t think it’s ever been used.

Bonus round to the acquisitions, what I thought was a bigger Skelton hoe than the one I already have (right) but the shape is different. Both are nice and both will be used. Skelton is fantastic quality, $10 is a steal.

Whatever your thoughts or ideas are, do not submit them to the Anti-Planning department for approval, as most likely they will give you a ridiculous excuse for denial;
like, " It would be harmful to the visual amenity of the neighbours and community ", especially if it can't be seen by anyone.

No doubt someone will disagree with me, and cite their experience regarding their council, but on the whole, West Lothian Council have been pretty good about their ‘stuff’.

New grease gun to replace the useless Sealey one I had. Much better grease gun with grease only coming out of the hose like it supposed to do and the pistol grip is easier to operate one handed. Sealey grease gun has gone in the bin.

I have always been meaning to get a half decent grease gun as the normal style are just so useless.
