The manual recommended 3 people to remove/refit the rear axle on my Defender, did it on my own with a trolley jack and a couple of ratchet straps, a bit of thought/planning can overcome most obstacles

Not really acquired today, more like recovered today.

I got this years ago, I used to rig it on the roof of the garage with a smoke flare, so it looked like it crashed into the roof.
Fun when you live near military ranges.

I got older, it was soon placed in the garden and became home to ivy and bird nest.

Today I removed the ivy, washed it down.

Now were did I leave my smoke flares.........

This, but i need to clean the rust from it somehow
Thats an 18" square next to it.

I went over it with a flapwheel then sprayed it with wd40 and wire brushed it.
A clever, skilled person has gone to some trouble to make this quality item. It really is very well made and could be quite old, so was cut with oxycet and grinders, very nice.

I didn't acquire this today, but bought it off ebay over a month ago, but the damn fool courier "misplaced" it. Anyway its a starrett 254 E & M vernier height gauge master bar. Its both metric and imperial, extremely heavy and well made (as is all starrett stuff). Looking on the web these cost thousands new, but i was the only bidder for this and got it for £30 and the post.

The only Starrett stuff I haven't been impressed with is their hacksaw blades. Eclipse all the way for me.

I phoned Starrett for a spare part for a set of digital vernier calipers i found in a skip, they sent me a brand new set free of charge, so I can't fault their customer service.
