The basis of the thought is that the headlights should be close enough together to appear as one at a distance, if it's a bike or bike-based trike.
You can certainly have two as adjacent neighbours.
Mine though, even though it's still a bike is flying in the face of the regs, but I don't care.
The auxiliary lights will only ever be on when the headlight is on, so there will be a triangle of three lights very close together, which is safe enough and should cause a double-take from any dozy pillock.

A motorcycle based trike is one with handle bar steering, but the weight also comes into it. You only need the double headlight if its more than 1700 wide.

I just had a word with Sooze, she told me that it is a motorcycle type for just that reason.
Even on the Trike MSVA Facebook group there is very little 'knowledge', just lots of guesswork. I'm not sure how many of the members have ever actually put a trike through MSVA. :dontknow:

A lot of these trikes get registered "disabled" and circumnavigate all the rules, as in there aren't any. They then go for a taxation class change after registration, job done.

There are also some sad people out there who think the dispensation within the MSVA for a disabled rider is a loophole to be exploited. This is well out of order and in fact is a criminal offence. Supplying false information on the declaration you sign is in fact fraud and you will be prosecuted if caught out.

True but it would explain your quote "Even on the Trike MSVA Facebook group there is very little 'knowledge', just lots of guesswork". The lack of knowledge is in part due to some of them not needing any.

I actually have a copy of the MSVA manual here (which I dug out yesterday to check the lighting section applicable) It's not too onerous in terms of requirements but does cover a lot of variations on two and three wheeled vehicles.
I'm currently building for BIVA for one project, I have an A4 notebook with pages for each section. I went through the regs and noted which sections applied to my build. I then made notes on the relevant page as to what was required to meet the regs in that section.
I now have a book with all the details of what I need to achieve in easily understood form, any reference to the legalese of the manual is kept to a minimum.
Works for me.

Very complex but none of it applies to your build.
Re-read my post, following that would show that section 3 (which you have quoted)does not apply and you can ignore it.
Section 2 is what you want and it's all pretty straight forward.

Not much has changed since I built the last one 13 years ago now. Sooze is superb, not sure if she still has contact with the guy who wrote the manual.

Loads of clueless experts out there. Nothing new

Just found this thread. Cool stuff..... if I had found it earlier I could have offered the planetary box from a Boss hoss to keep it short.....belt drive unit. Slipping clutches but still of use to someone building a Chevy based trike. I changed it to a powerglide 2 speed. Engine was a 502ci.

I'd have had the issue of connecting a belt drive to a differential then, but if I'd know it was available I'd have built a V8 bike instead.

Many years ago I put one together in the philippines, but it was a bit of a monster.

Sorted some mudguards, which are the perfect radius, but an inch too wide. I then did the usual 3 days of procrastination on how to mount them.
I finally decided on some bosses welded to the body and frame, with steel pins that will be fastened to the mud guards, so they can be adjusted laterally as required. Early days, still playing with bits.

Drilled and tapped 3/8 unf for clamping grub screws, with a length of bar to ensure alignment while welding. High tech stuff.
