Second section done.
It has some issues with stringing off the threads but they should clean up ok, I could even run a die down it but I am making up the "nuts" now. I chose this print because I like the look of the design.
Once dialled in it should give a good firm grip even on the edges without racking and like I said, the jaw section is removable so I ought to be able to come up with some interesting shaped jaw features.
Starting to get the hang of Fusion and almost finished the first "design" (lol, it's a box!) but need to figure out the relationship between components and bodies.
The enclosure is done based on the size of my PSU's with standoffs for the preexisting mounting holes. Now I just need to model a lid so I'm trying to figure out how to "separate" the top profile so I can extrude from the existing model to make a separate lid. Should be easy but it's only easy when you know how. As we speak, I don't know how!
Ended up converting mine to direct drive hemera extruder, must have over a 1000 hours of printing so everything is getting worn, it could use a good overhaul. I mainly print workshop related stuff so minor issues in the print are of no concern.

Yeah but you should have grabbed the other one and sold the Anycubic on. lol
You are doing very very well as a new starterI'll have a look at "projecting profiles", I assume that will give me the option to create a new body. What I did was a bit of a hack. I imported the model into a new project and extruded from a new sketch as you suggest above. Now my hands are tied because there's no way those gears are going to be done before I hit the sack and I am really keen to make my first design real!
Not long now though...
I will pick your brains for sure! For the moment though, this is day1 and I need to battle with the really simple stuff before I get too far ahead of myself. Walk before you can run and all that...
Yeah I just missed out on an ender 2 for £65 as I needed some elbows to fit 38mm Ali box section quick. Sadly it had gone and I saw it 40 mins after listing. I had to use aluminium. Expensive and wasteful but they need the jigs developing quickly. I have 3 other printers but not good enough for ABS pro.Now I'm in a pickle. Figured out how to make the lid for the box so I'm now keen to print it.
I can see why people often appear to have more than one 3D printer...
Those gears sure do look pretty mind.
That would be very useful personally. I find it hard to understand from text. But learn quickly once shown.
Yeah I learnt quite early it's not about selecting and sticking with one Brand but colours CAN make a big difference regarding settings
I would have sorted it out before printing with it..lol
