I've been machining a new rod and replacing the barrel on a 21t excavator bucket ram this week. 120mm bore , 80mm rod around 1500mm long.
What steel would those pins be made from Rory ? Hardly just mild steel ?

EN8 as a minimum id imagine. Most pins for heavy duty stuff will be EN16, EN19 etc. What steel would those pins be made from Rory ? Hardly just mild steel ?
This rod is chromed en8, but I also use chromed en14 and en19t, the tube is a funny grade but it’s the equivalent of s355 .What steel would those pins be made from Rory ? Hardly just mild steel ?
120mm!
You don't have any offcuts I could make a ram for a press from?
Once the EN14 is heat treated can you get away with carbide inserts or do you need to use ceramic? This rod is chromed en8, but I also use chromed en14 and en19t, the tube is a funny grade but it’s the equivalent of s355 .
When I make pins I usually use en14 black bar rough turned and then get them heat treated before hard turning them to the finished size
Started using one of those ecig things to pull me off the daily smokes. All going well but I keep dropping the thing and everytime I do it smashes the mouth piece which is made of some sort of Teflon/baker lite type material so as it’s the weak point and I’ve broken 3 in a month at £4 a piece I thought I would make a drop proof one.
316 stainless bar was just the ticket.
O ring is for a wp20 backcap. Made for the job.
Christ that’s a lot.One of my favourite drip tips is stainless with cooling fins. When your using a stubby dripper they can get a bit hot.
Hope it goes well for you mate. I switched some time ago. Went from 150g of tobacco a week to none overnight.
Don't drop the nic too early.
https://www.cancerresearchuk.org/ab...-controversies/does-vaping-cause-popcorn-lungI see there has been more reports, the flavouring in e-cigs may cause ‘popcorn lung’
Big tobacco is hurting.

thanks mate but this should be fine.I have a nice stainless one that you’re welcome to if you’d like it.
You'll just move the stress and crack the boro glass tube now. Can’t imagine I’ll break this any time soon
If it's poly not glass some juices will crack em. Lemon kills poly tanksYou'll just move the stress and crack the boro glass tube now.
Does look good though.
Could make a stainless one of those too easy enough if that breaksYou'll just move the stress and crack the boro glass tube now.
