I think most of us mere mortals are just playing at it....
My plan is hopefully to not be playing at it by 2 years

. It’s an insert to repair a shot up Panther tank gearbox...Looks good... But what is it? Bearing cap!?? Wheres the rest of it?

No. It belongs to the Australian Artillery and Armoury museum .Is that the one in the Wheatcroft Collection?

Will clock the journal below it and machine new section to suit.Soo, once fitted, does this get line bored so it all "lines up" with the existing bearing housings?
Why wouldn’t they be tight? Straight is straight,is it not? It’s a question of knowing what is important and what isn’t. The bore has to be spot on, as does the height,as does the bolt positions and dowel positions. The rest is well, just a casting...Wow, calls for really accurate measuring and machining - but I guess the tollerances aren't that tight?
Agree, but the "only" way to guarantee an aligned bore is to line bore it - is it not?
I have a sneaky feeling you're going to say otherwise...

You seem to be having a laugh. You seem to be very knowledgeable about lineboring.
