Then when it wears one cut with the tinsnips and its as good as new again, that little scrap in the photo has done countless joints and will no doubt do many more.

I cut em on the shear
I generally lose em before I wear them out. A little bit of rubber on the underside of the clamp when holding them in place protects the finish of the part.

What's the best way to polish stainless without buying the expensive machines?

Kind of tongue in cheek but also seriously for the cheapest way try thick solid card board & liquid Brasso if you want a mirror polish with lots of cheap elbow grease

Another one sent out today, base frame and angle structure for a multi headed bottle filler, 80 x 40 box section base and the angle is 40 x 40 x 6, not too much cleaning up needed, it will be fitted with stainless panels and doors so mostly wont be seen.

Last one of the year, a pair of stainless steel legs for a desk, the top is going to be a slab of oak 1.7m long and 50mm thick, should go quite nicely with the stainless, these are made from 100 x 8 flat bar so not light, (or cheap), took longer to polish them up than it did to make them.

Been making a framework for a small bridge to go over a conveyor, all stainless steel tigged together, 50 x 50 x 3 box section with 30 x 30 x 3 handrails.

Fabbing it up, used a couple of universal beams I keep for this kind of job, they are fitted with leveling screws, really handy for laying framework type jobs on

Pretty colours, thats 3mm box to 12mm plate

Corner jigs are handy to get everything square

Getting bigger, it'll just fit through the door, hopefully

And outside standing up, not too much cleaning up on this one, its just functional not decorative.
Its a bit of a shoehorn job to get it in place so it will be finished on site by the customer, there is a stainless floorplate to be fitted, and a couple of staircases with box section handrails,

Handrails made for the platform / bridge, 40 x 40 x 3 box section so should be heavy enough, the customer is doing the stringers and treads, hope they fit...

So the bloke came to service an aircon unit at a hospital site to find it imprisoned by someone who hasn't given this guard much thought.

So a bit of cutting and couple of stainless gates later, and the filters and the fans can now be accessed without having to lift the guard completely off.

Been making more bits for fire appliances, brackets for the new RTC cutting equipment, the box is for stowage of hydraulic hoses, the brackets to nest the cutters and spreader ram, they will be lined with a plastic insert when fitted, and the boxes have a push on edging round the top, the brigade workshops will take care of that bit.
Nine sets here, prototype set is already fitted, making ten sets, with another twenty to go in the new financial year.

Stainless steel framework for an access platform, will have a short vertical ladder and a treadplate platform fitted by the customer, a conveyor runs underneath it.
50 x 50 x 3 box section with 30 x 30 handrails fitted diamond orientation.

Not much cleaning up needed on this job just wirebrush and scotchpad the welds, and ship it out.

A bit of handrail fitted in a town centre shop today, I made the one on the left over the glass panel some time ago, but someones taken a tumble down the steps so they asked for a rail down the middle as well, all 2" tube with 6mm baseplates

There is an air con unit directly above the steps and it occasionally drops a bit of condensation on the metal steps, this may have been a factor in the accident so also fitted a stainless drip tray under it at the same time, its a very small amount of water and anything in the tray will soon evaporate, tray lifts off the brackets for cleaning, I suspect it'll never be touched though.

I’m gonna be (slightly) critical though if that’s ok, and as that it would look a chunk nicer bolted down with circular plates rather than squares.

I do like a bit of MMA welding, don't get to do it much nowadays, and I especially like MMA welding stainless, today I've been assembling these leg extensions which was a perfect excuse to dig out the arc welding kit,

The tube is 10" shed 40 which is 275mm od and 8mm wall thickness, hefty stuff and eye wateringly expensive, endplates are 10mm lasercut, obligatory forum approved mug for scale.

These things weigh 75kg a piece, there was a time when I was daft enough to have lifted them onto the bench but this hand operated fork lift is how I do it nowadays,

Bought some nice Bohlers in vac packs for the job, these are a very nice electrode to use, running them on my little Essetti inverter, electrode positive at around 130 amps

The slag just falls off, this is as welded,

And after a tickle with a wire brush

Stainless MMA is just such a delightful way to weld. So pleasing to admire an attractive welded joint afterwards.
It just flows and wets out a dream.
I’d like to do more of it too.

Those really are beautiful beads.
I don't do stainless, I do use them as disimmilar rods but not all that often.

There was the inevitable bit of distortion to deal with on the endplates, my friend jack soon dealt with that though, and today they were picked up by the customer, no more cleaning up required on these, they will never be seen when fitted.
