Im waiting to have my holiday supply inspected/ tested for a charge point. Apparently they may need me to pay for an supply upgrade…..its installed 3 bleeping years. Were electric cars not a thing then. Odd though I could fit a 32 amp cooker, or welder socket, so why all the fuss for a charge point!Happens all the time! It's amazing how embedded the idea is (even among electrical installers & pro's) that the electricity supply is infinite.
It never crosses lots of minds (many of whom really should know better) that the LAN may not have the energy at source, or the capacity at Distribution - to satisfy the new install.
I seen more than a couple of several hundred K installations where they've built it all first, only to find thereisnt the power for it.
If upgrade is required there will be one of two things happening……There will be no charge point, or they will be upgrading free, or relocating the 2 poles in my fields that have no way leave on them!
