Are we talking proper wood, or laminate?

Proper wood. About 1/2" thick.

It's "just" to keep the chill off the room.

It will be over 50mm insulation.

It will work, but wood is an insulator, a resonable one at that.

Biggest issue it the wood moving as it gets gently toasted.

Excellent, I'll have a large expansion gap as it is. Slow warmth is what we're after.

Why not just buy 'er indoors thick woolly socks, soooo much easier (and cheaper).

I would think you would get hot spots due the the insulation of the wood, this might cause problems.

I can see the timber shrinking and moving. But it's less than eight foot wide so shouldn't be appreciable. I'm going to floor first and put the plaster slab on the floor, so should hide any movement.
