You can make your own parts for IVA, I made wishbones and steering column plus welded brackets to the axle for my Locost when I built it. Why should MOT fail them after they have been passed for IVA ?Welding suspension or driveline parts is an mot failure AFAIK.
I've come to this one late but, these guys ^^^, used them for years, never had a problem.Have you tried J&R Driveshafts ? I don't know your exact model, and not everything they do is on their website. Ring them.
A bit overdramatical there @gerrymoore - you've had an offer, all you need is a shaft with cv that fits your hub...Still on the search for the cv joint (waiting for J & R to reply) only place I have found one is in Rome!!
I have emailed them waiting for a reply. The original genuine Mazda CV is £400 but not available either. I am looking for 2nd hand but it would have to be the whole shaft as I now know you can't get a CV off intact!!
If I can't get one, the car might as well be a write off at 20k miles ...
I just wouldn't consider this unless it's by someone who is certified to do it. If the weld fails it could cause a fatal accident...if that happens then someone will have to take the fall.I don't see the problem with welding up a driveshaft, if it's done carefully and right.
If you find a shaft with cv that fits your hub (presumably with abs ring unless its in the bearing?) You can cut and shut it to your existing shaft - so you only need the "outer" end of a shaft to fit. So this doubles your chances to find the solution, unless of course the cv outer splines are unique, which sounds not the case since you allready bought one new cv - did you check fit that to your hub?Not sure what you mean I've had an offer?? No one has offered me a shaft with a CV that fits my hub?? I have contacted lots of 2nd hand dealers .. nothing ..not one supplier has the CV joint I need to fit the shaft apart from the one in Italy?? Am I missing something?? Who made me the offer?

I've gone off that idea of welding two shafts as the concensus seems that it is not allowed for MOT... I would prefer to get the correct CV joint ..if it comes from Italy so be it!!

Should have ordered 2!Good news..I hope. I've just sent £74 via PayPal to a part supplier in Rome for the correct GSP CV joint for the mazda ...that includes shipping!!! When it arrives (hopefully) I could probably sell it for £500 as these seem to be rarer than hens teeth I'll let you know when the wife is driving again
