Defender rebuild - leave galvanised or paint?

-11 last night here ,my jeep has 3 wheels while I fix a caliper slide , did I do any of it this evening - No , getting soft too cold for me .

Wheel arch extensions and lights fitted today

Took a lot longer than I planned, certainly an improvement. Fitted LED headlights too.

I watch a few US off road recoveries on Youtube and they seem to have gone away from hooks on the end of winch lines and are using soft shackles instead.

Just realised, I have fitted the LED lights sideways! They were getting sold off by Maltings 4x4 cheap, no instructions. Easy enough fix

Not a fan of the look of those headlights, what is the light output like?
You'll need to start dismantling the rear to have it painted now

Very bright compared to the wipacs.

Finally after 5 weeks of a chest infection and 3 courses of antibiotics I am back out in the garage.

Finished rebuilding inner wing brackets, turned headlights the right way! corrected the connections to the windscreen washers that I had the wrong way and number plate on, so back on the road.

Well in my other post I finally fitted the galvanised doors:

Service today:

Engine oil and filters done

Gearbox and diffs next (oils arrived today)

Gearbox, transfer box and diff oil changed then prop shafts greased.
Took some of the under armour off for a clean:

That oil safe makes oil changes so much easier:

Just a wheel bearing needing slight adjustment and a track rod end to replace and done...... as well its easy to work on.

I kept my eyes open for a second hand one, still paid about £80 for it, new they are quite spendy. Great for outboard gearboxes too.

Ive no longer got the quite spendy problem of big outboard motors! twas like ripping up 20s back in the 80s

Really one for each different oil would be the thing, but a bit over kill!

Garden sprayers work well enough. My cheapest possible one only failed when the Defender ran over it.
