There was a holiday in the sun type programme, in some place they paint cocks on the houses.
It showed a woman having a toothache cured, they stuffed her mouth with wet yak dung and poked
a red hot poker into the tooth. She smiled afterwards, toothache gone!
Or was that a telly program I dreamed;-)

I believe the Romans used to "pin fire" teeth, ie burn out the root through the cavity with a red hot needle.

After quite a few root canals over the years i had a bad one on a molar, my then dentist was a yorkshireman & bloody good, He said i cant give you any more injections as you are at the limit already. It was horrible. I resolved i would never again undergo root canal work. Next time it was suggested i said "Pull it out".
Job done, Never ever again.

I had an apicoectomy once, in the dentist's chair. A root canal treatment had gone through the root causing a recurrent abcess.

One of the wife's bosses's friends was a **** hot oral surgeon. He said " "I've the tools in my garage to do that! " We're taking mind fully tiled to store the his 'n her's Porsches.

Saved me going to hospital.

I have a large gap in the middle top of mush, It started when i was about 16 with a filling in front tooth, every year the filling would fall out & get bigger, in the end it got infected & a root canal was done followed by a crown cap. That lasted about 20 years & fell off, another infection meant an operation followed by a post crown. That lasted until about 6 years ago when a spanner slipped of a nut & snapped the bugger off. I got a plate with one toothy peg on it. I hate the poxy thing but without it look like one of the hillbillies out of deliverance.
Saw the dentist the other day as i had a gumboil just above that missing tooth, that went of its own accord but is likely to return. I asked what the options are.
It seems Im out of options, the root is dead & cant be crowned now. Im in the position of keep as is, A bridge off the crown each side which isnt a good idea or an implant. Implant is going to be 2.5 to 3 k! But the specialist in the practice will need to look at it first to see if the bone is good enough to take it.
I have been told by several dentists that It might sound good to go abroad for cheap treatment but if & when it goes wrong you are in trouble.
One of these guys was a member of another forum & said an increasing amount of his work was trying to put right foreign done implants that had failed.
Try fixing those on the nhs!
As for DIY dentistry a scrap dealer mate pulls his own teeth on occasion, he has some forceps that he got in the scrap years ago & uses those!

I have a bridge but not done with crowns. Its like an metal M with the tooth in the middle & the outer legs flattened & drilled to the shape of the real teeth each side. Then glued on. It was made by an army dentist around 83. I managed to knock it out once but was just re glued back in. Still ok today. No damage to either tooth it glues too.

When i was a D&T technician in a secondary school a fair part of my life was sanding off cocks drawn on workbenches!

I was a bit worried after the two re-fillings Weds, that one or other might play up. I've had it before many years ago. Don't get me wrong I had no issues before I went, just the checkup meant I needed these two redone.

Toothache over Christmas is no fun at all when the choice is an exorbitant emergency dentist / GP / A&E for something stronger than paracetamol or Ibuprofen.

I had her leave the composite on the lower left 7 a little high but my bite is adjusting nicely. The original filling had worn really low. As I've had my wisdom teeth out and lost my upper left 6 it's left the upper left 7 all on it's lonesome. It's actually tilted in the gum to "fit" the worn lower one. Apparently, over time it should drift back.

I'm considering maybe some realignment process of my front lowers as one is slightly twisted. Not vanity, I just need all the help I can get.
