Although a lovely looking machine thats robust with all the bells,whistles and flashing lights etc
BUT
On the mig side of things,I'd still prefer a unit that accommodates a bottle of gas and on wheels,yes i know circumstances differ from job to job for us all,but lugging a full gas bottle around just for a nice tool like that seems pointless IMHO
So,would you make a bottle trolley,or have it stood on its own near the welder,long gas hose perhaps?????????

In my workshop I have a bottle with reg and the hose then goes to a manifold on the wall with 3 different flow meters and each with a shut off valve. My 3 welders connect to these flow meters.
When out and about I have another bottle that I take with me and having a big wheeled welder would just be a hindrance, much easier to lug a seperate bottle and a smaller welder than lug a bigger wheeled welder with a bottle attached, especially if I am having to transport in the car.

I am seriously considering selling my mig and stick welders so that I buy one of these off Tom as they are smaller than my mig on wheels and I'm really struggling with space.

Welder was on the floor in the cherry picker basket , with the gas bottle strapped to the side of the basket.

Even though it's a 2 roll feed, I don't think it's a cheaply made piece. Looked the business, I've no complaints about it anyway

I have an oerlikon 3 phase job with the 4wd feeder works good with 1.2 fc wires . when using the smaller rollers .6 .8 mm it would not feed so good would be working well then on start up would birdnest checked everything tried running on the front two rollers only and it works perfectly no more problems
My other feeder a miller feeds alu wire better too with 2 rollers
So 4 rollers to me aint any better
The drive assembly is a brand new unit with new rollers that i retrofitted as an up grade its an m 308c unit

Are all 6 driven though. That's the real thing that matters.
A lot of machines brag 4 roll system but quite often only 2 are driven 2 are idle. 4 driven rollers are the way forward with soft wires. I assume yours been a top end unit will be a fully driven system.

I think 5 are driven, the 5th with the idler is in the push pull gun hence the

I would say its true 4wd you would asume it would drive better but as you see its working on just the front drive and its loads better. maybe pressure is not even on both sides be nice if you could adjust pressure on each side seperately . i set up always with just enough to drive the wire too much and it will curl the wire
Same if you get a burn back best to run that lenghth of wire out the torch and bin it

You can see that's a full 4 wheel drive feeder as all 4 wheels have a gear behind them. It's quite nice to see metal rocker arms on the pressure rollers.
Most are plastic nowadays.

The EWM has separate adjusters for each roller set.

Now this is a miller 2 wheel set up with serrated rollers it feeds 5356 al wire with no fuss again minimum pressure just enough it marks the wire of course but with no slippage there seems less swarf lying around the feed rollers that normaly gets in the liners
Im aware of purpose specific rollers u groove etc but as is said you have to pee with the oe sometimes

Its at least 10 years old the assembly was like new. the board had went and it was skipped i rescued it and a couple of years ago i bought the 308c it had the 2 roller set up so it was given the 4wd upgrade straight swop over easy peasy

To get back on track how would the esab compare to the similar unit from techarc its the only one with hf tig

Presume it doesn't have the smart feature for stick welding?

Has anyone seen any good deals going on these?
