I prefer to deal with wellyweld as I buy most my stuff from them I don't have a big enough client base with them as my personal work is I would class as commercial hobbyist I have a lot of gear and do some pretty cool work some times but I fund it through my personal money. cheers for the information and help @Jim Davey and @Brad93 I'm out of action for at least a week so with no pay no play sadly. if this continues as I am I might have to pack in all together and find a different job. but that's the worse case hopefully I might be able to return back to fabricating and mag welding. also sadly you guys will get more post from me as I'm at home bored out of my skull

as for my need for the unit how can I say it its more of a want then a need but it will make my life easier in the future plans if I plan to develop karma fabrication/ junkyard fab. the max I weld in work is say 2 inch thick steel in my personal work its skip material if I need to weld thick stuff I have access to my dads 3 phase kempi mig plant or at my work shop I have a sae 300 amp Lincoln stick machine and a Lincoln ranger that can get me to 30 volts its just to loud. so I would like a machine where I can weld my skips up and general repairs. I am thinking the esab rebel but maybe a x demo or something would be better on the value my savings at the moment of my personal money is 1200 so a few more weeks or months and I might have a shinny new toy

I like the rebel as a do it all machine but bear in mind whatever multiprocess you get they will always be a bit of a trade off against the real deal.

I’ve heard good things about the Miller too but not had a chance to have a play.

Shame EWM only have a 180A picomig. I’ve used the 305 and that’s pretty good for a compact bit of kit.

I'm in the market for a multi process welder, will mainly be used for working on cars, but want the ability to do other stuff as well.

I'm pretty sure the rebel 215 is what I'll go for, only thing I'm not sure about is brazing. I can't find any info about running cusi wire in the rebel. Is there settings I. The smig for brazing?

I see the esab caddy has dedicated cusi settings, as does the kemppi, but I like the idea of being able to stick weld, and trying my hand at Tig.

Even if it doesn't do smig synergically with cusi, you can do it with manual voltage/wfs same as any welder (in fact easier, because you're adjusting exact voltage increments, not big unknown steps)

There's a well priced BNIB 215 in the classifieds right now, actually... as long as warranty is transferable then its a bargain.

The Q set was quite a nice dip transfer program which worked well with CuSi wires on thin materials. Lap joints were particularly nice in Q set with that wire.

S mig on the rebel was marketed in much the same way to be used as an intelligent dip transfer that stabilised itself after a second of welding to suit the consumable/material, however I personally never thought it was quite as nice. The welding characteristics of S mig were different to the Q set and I personally prefer the Q set. In fact in all honesty I prefer the caddy 200i to the rebel on the whole.
The rebel obviously had its advantages such as dual voltage and Euro torch but for just a single phase mig I think the caddy was nicer to use personally.

After reading these comments I might save a couple of quid and go for a caddy rather than the rebel.

Then get a Tig/stick later on to teach myself tig. At least then I could get a AC/DC machine

I live in western western isles, so no local agents to buy from.

Any pointers to where to get a good deal on one, mail order? I'll be needing everything to go with it to get me started, mask, gloves regulator.

Do they come with a Tig torch? Or is that something else I should be getting as well?

Doesn’t come with a TIG torch as standard, but you can get one added to your order, which reminds me I still need to order one

Hi Bushy, Macgregors in Stornoway will get you an Esab Rebel no problem - won't be as good a price as you will get online but I got a Rebel 215ic last year through work and they were one of the suppliers that quoted. Didn't come from them in the end though. Shipping can be pretty costly with some of the big name suppliers. Have you ordered yet?

Had a pleasant surprise when I opened up the box and it came with gloves, anti spatter spray, torch holder angle magnets etc as freebies but that may have been a short term offer. By default no regulator or TIG torch although we purchased them separately. No foot pedal though as that seemed to be extortionate.

Hi Willie. Not ordered it yet, I didn't ask in magregors, as no mention on website that they are Esab agents. I have been meaning to get in touch with HIS, as they are agents in Inverness.

Also want to get a price from Tom above, as he has been recommended I. Various threads on here.

I'm working away just now, but want to get somethi g ordered up in a week or 2, so I have it when I get home at the end of the month.
