Heating oil increase this morning

Far too sensible to be planning ahead and ordering oil now. I will do the usual and wait until dead of winter and peak demand then fill up

I seem to follow a similar approach- with the added frisson of only noticing we’re needing oil just as it runs out…

I keep meaning to buy one of those remote sensing, ultrasonic level alarms that sit atop the tank. Not cheap though.

What was that 'massive' (relative) drop in June about and the subsequent rapid increase? I spotted the dip as it happened and thought it would continue a downward trend so waited, but was wrong to do that.

Think that was when the reserves were expected to have fallen but actually when reported they had increased and with summer looming the demand likely to fall.

At that level of trading we could be months away from seeing a signifcant price drop, all existing commitments and reserves get sold off before we get a reduction.

If you've got the cash just buy it I dont think you will be saving that much if you string it out

Last few days have steadied out so have bitten the bullet and ordered 3000l. 58.68 ppl plus vat. It works out about £40 cheaper than the same order last year but will see me through till next spring now. 3500litres did last July until today.

Did you get the additive put in too? I have started adding it these last few fills.

If I got my ar4e in gear and fitted my 30 solar thermal tubes, I'd save a fortune in oil and maybe able to heat the hot tub for near free...

I do a squirt of 3:1 in the tank sometimes. I've also slung a cup of engine oil in before.

Just musing.....would adding a bottle of Redex Diesel in the oil tank at fill up help or do anything detrimental?

No. Not personally convinced it does much. The system is in good condition, serviced and filters here and there that get cleaned so didnt worry about it. The boilers are 25 years old so think they would have been designed to run on 'plain' kero just fine.

There was a while I seemed to be going through fuel pumps at an alarming rate, my boiler is also coming on for 25years old, thankfully the pump issues has not been an issue for a while (thats the kiss of death now!!)

I can't see why, please explain. Wouldn't it just clean the system a bit maybe?

I've got a kingspan one, as do my folks. The last came with the new tank I think. They're pretty reliable, might have had to change a battery but I can't remember when. But then, it does make a broomstick look cheap.
