Pretty much every large, expensive, company premises in central London has a UPS system and associated battery. These are now commonly li-ion and many times larger than a Tesla battery.
These are often basement fitted with thousands of employees working above. Car parks are the least of people worries if these things really were as dangerous as the FF shills like to make out.

Tell me this - is there a building control application or fee category for EV charger installation yet?

If you ask for EV chargers to be installed are the instalers mandated to seek statutory approvals? Such as the guys who pump your cavity walls with insulation? Nope.

As I have said the industry needs to catch up with these things.

For a domestic dwelling - yes, you need to get DNO approval and it needs signing off by someone qualified to do the work. You can't just get anyone to come in and fit them, of course you could , in the same way you could rewire your whole house yourself -but your insurance would be invalid...

Are you saying that multi storey car park owners aren't subject to, at least, the same level of scrutiny? Would they just install them on a whim, at a risk of invalidating their insurance? Of course not.

I wonder IF this was narrowed down to an EV car then would their insurance policy be liable for 1200 cars damage + building damages too? Or who would be charged with footing what will be a sizable bill. Will this for example extend to compensating passengers for courtesy cars etc?

Based on the experience of my ex’s lad . . . no.

His car was parked in a public car park.

A car in the spot diagonally one to the front right caught fire(non EV!). It set the car alongside it on fire. The heat from it melted the front bumper, grill, headlight, mirror, damaged the paint on the bonnet, front wheel and cracked the windscreen of her lad’s car.

Easy fix – covered under the “fire and theft” bit of the insurance, obviously.

Err. No. Some reason to do with who or what started the fire – if it could be proven someone actually lit the other car, then covered. As it appeared no-one did . . . tough.

The key as with all fires are speed and weight of response. But not just that the response needs to be with the correct equipment.
The push in the fire service is towards smaller vehicles with only 2 or 3 Firefighters.
This limits or reduces the ability to wear BA and carry equipment detailed to extinguish specific types of fire.

The BRV's are certainly quicker response, I've noticed a few times if Billesley turn out both vehicles the BRV will pass our house a good couple of minutes before the pump.

Until somebody cracks the thermal run away issue of ev batteries in a fire, they will be a very risky form of propulsion. That said, Fire services have been extinguishing petrol and diesel fires for 100 years and know how best to deal with them. Maybe someone will come up with a radical solution that drops the extinguish time of batteries down to a more acceptable level

We used lithium ion batteries in submerged equipment offshore. When they were in the tech room being serviced they would occasionally have leaked salt water in, which is not good...

The immediate and only prodpcedure to any burning or smoking was to throw them over the side of the ship.

Normally we can throw nothing over the side, our company was massive on pollution and Marpol regulations. But lithium ion, nobody wanted that onboard if it was burning.

Supercooled brine apparently works really, really well.

The issue however is that there is no easy way to get it into the battery itself.

Brine and Dc current = chlorine and hydrogen gas. Just saying

A heavy fuel will build pressure and then rupture, getting a fast moving fire ball.

Petrol explodes if it’s a vapour. So will diesel, if it’s hot enough. So an overheated tank, will eventually split, boom is the result I guess. Propane is an interesting one - tanks have a high pressure release, there is a vid of someone lighting a bonfire next to one. The vent kept opening, with a roar, until eventually the tank wall let go....
